Margo LaPierre

Margo LaPierre – Editor

My goal is to help you realize your work and your narrative, and to help your writing make an impact. Let's get you published.

Overview

As an award-winning editor specializing in fiction and memoir, my approach is to study each manuscript while mapping it out, considering many angles to ensure all aspects of the manuscript support the author's intention. My empathy toward the author and their characters extends from this in-depth understanding.

I adapt my approach to the voice and style of the author, using pattern analysis to inform my insights and suggestions. By providing concrete and creative possible solutions to areas of concern within the work, I give my clients a clear action plan for their manuscript revision.

In 2019 I was awarded the national Claudette Upton Scholarship by Editors Canada. I am also a published poet—my collection Washing Off the Raccoon Eyes was published by Guernica Editions in 2017. I graduated from the Ryerson University Publishing Program and, prior to that, received my baccalaureate degree in Arts and Contemporary Studies (with a major in philosophy) from Ryerson University. I edit fiction for Guernica Editions in addition to my freelancing practice.

In my volunteer work, I am the newsletter editor on the executive board of Arc Poetry Magazine; the membership chair of Editors Ottawa-Gatineau (a regional branch of the national professional organization Editors Canada); and a poetry selector for Bywords.ca, an online poetry journal based in Ottawa.
