Understanding Self-publishing
To kick off the day, Noah Charney will introduce you to everything you need to know about self-publishing. An indie author gets complete creative control over the process, and with that comes a wealth of decisions that need to be made. In this session, you’ll get a step-by-step breakdown of what to consider when producing, distributing, and marketing your book. You’ll also gain an understanding of the costs, timelines, and royalties you can realistically expect, so you can make the right decisions to suit your publishing goals.

Assembling Your Self-publishing Team
Writing a novel might be a solo activity, but producing a book isn’t a one-man job. For this author panel, we’re bringing together three successful indie authors to discuss how they assembled their dream teams – from editors, to cover designers, to marketers. Cara Clare, Niyati Tamaskar, and T.D. Donnelly will join Noah Charney in conversation to share what they’ve learned when choosing their professionals (and which ones were worth their pennies).

Picking Your Distribution Platform
Once you’ve written, edited, and packaged your book, it’s time to get it into the hands of readers. In the final session of Day One, we’ll walk you through your distribution options, whether you plan to publish ebooks online or get physical copies into bookstores. We’ll be joined by representatives from some of the biggest distribution platforms in the self-publishing space, including Draft2Digital and IngramSpark.

Eight Types of Fans to Grow Your Author Platform
When groups have a central purpose, certain roles emerge to grow and protect the group. Knowing these roles, and when they show up in fandom growth, can help you decide how to strategize your author platform growth. In this talk, writing coach Becca Syme will discuss how you can put these roles to work for you, no matter how big or small your fan group.
