Tina Morlock

Tina Morlock – Editor

Nonfiction developmental editor of USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestsellers

Overview

With experience as a managing editor, I understand what a high-quality edit looks like, and this is the strength I bring to all my book editing projects.

I've worked with USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling authors, and I've also worked with new self-publishing authors who have won awards for their books. I put that same time, attention, and level of detail with all the authors I work with because I feel every author has an incredible story to tell. What I do is my purpose and my passion, so I think working with you is a privilege rather than just another job.

Who's telling your story? You are! And I pride myself in making sure it stays that way. If I see something that warrants changing in your work that could disrupt your voice, I will give you my advice and leave the final change up to you. This is primarily accomplished through editorial comments that explain clearly why I think something needs to be edited with additional resources if I feel they are necessary.

My experience with editing books ranges from poetry to nonfiction to fiction. Each of these projects have been unique, and I handle them all differently, depending on what your needs, goals, and requirements are. In this way, the work we do together is a collaboration because I feel we are both on the same team.

My editing personality is of both a cheerleader and a workhorse. I will highlight your strengths to encourage you, and I will also point out the things that aren't as strong. However, I will do so in a way that teaches you without tearing you down. If you're looking for a mean editor who destroys your will to continue writing, that is not me. I will be honest, but I've always felt there's a way to be honest without hurting someone's feelings.
