Overview
My role as an editor is to assess and analyse an author's creative intentions and help them to realise this through critical insight and practical advice.
I enjoy the collaborative editorial process and supporting authors to make their book the best it can be towards publication.
What I can do for you:
FICTION [Creative non-fiction/auto-fiction]
-Developing concept, structure, characters – the novel as a whole.
-Copy-editing or deeper line-editing: more intensive work around the body of the text.
-Establishing and maintaining authorial voice or the voice of your protaganist/characters.
-Checking consistency of narrative, tense, and timeline.
-Trouble-shooting: specific issues or concerns the author that need "fixing" or "repairing" to make the book work or improve flow.
-Proofreading
NON-FICTION
-Drafting non-fiction book proposals/submissions to agents or publishers (covering letter, synopsis, annotated contents, chapter sample, author bio and market/competition considerations)
-Ensuring rigour of argument/the ideas behind the book – that this clearly mapped-out and explained throughout the text.
-As above: developmental editing, copy-editing and proofreading.
POETRY
-Line-editing, critical analysis and honest and objective feedback
-Selecting and sequencing poems into a collection or pamphlet manuscript.
-Advice on submissions to suitable presses that are a good fit for your work.
SAMPLE EDIT
Before establishing an in-depth working relationship for the whole of your book, I am happy to offer an edit look-over of a couple of chapters for a nominal fee. The depth and length of this sample edit can be discussed relative to budget/timescale.
