Rachelle M. N. Shaw – Editor

Independent editor and professional writer with nearly a decade of experience and a knack for detail

Overview

I'm a professional writer and editor who is passionate about helping authors hone their craft and find their voice. Others have described my editing services as thorough and educational. I offer a wide range of services from basic copy and line editing to detailed developmental editing, including manuscript coaching. With nearly a decade of experience in the industry, I've held positions as a technical writer, independent editor, graphic designer, and more. I specialize in fantasy and paranormal works of fiction but am not limited to those areas. I have a knack for detail and finding pesky errors that are easy to miss. My primary goal is to polish your manuscript without changing your style or voice. Your writing is unique and should be enhanced, not written over. You call the final shots. Work experience

The Corner Club Press

Sep, 2013 — Jan, 2015 (over 1 year)

I worked as the layout artist for the CCP literary magazine, organizing both the content and design elements that went into each issue. I created the graphic elements within the issues and designed the cover for each. I also was their copyeditor; I oversaw the final edits for each bio and short story that went into the issue and made the necessary grammatical and punctuation corrections before formatting them. I created a template for the magazine and served as their overall layout artist.

Self-employed

Oct, 2011 — Present

During my time as an independent editor, I've worked with both published and unpublished authors on manuscripts, short stories, poetry, synopses, and more. I specialize in copy and line editing, but my most popular services include developmental editing, full manuscript coaching, and one-on-one workshops. I've also served as a beta reader for many friends and fellow writers. I hold a degree in professional writing from Purdue University, and I have a background in psychology, German, and science. I use the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style for all my edits.

Teleflex

Jun, 2010 — Apr, 2011 (10 months)

I worked as a technical writer and data analyst for Teleflex, a medical supply company. My duties included editing company documents, recording meeting minutes, analyzing data and creating charts from them, managing projects, writing software tutorials, and handling Engineering Change Orders, or ECOs. I quit my position to be a stay-at-home mom and to pursue work as an independent editor.
