Rachelle M. N. Shaw - Editor

Pennsylvania

Independent editor and professional writer with nearly a decade of experience and a knack for finding things that others miss.

Overview

I'm a professional writer and editor who is passionate about helping authors hone their craft and find their voice. Others have described my editing services as thorough and educational.

I offer a wide range of services from basic copy and line editing to structural and light developmental editing. With nearly a decade of experience in the industry, I've held positions as a technical writer, independent editor, graphic designer, and more. I specialize in fantasy and paranormal works of fiction but am not limited to those areas. I have a knack for detail and can find errors that others miss. My primary goal is to polish your manuscript without changing your style or voice. Your writing is unique and should be enhanced, not written over. You call the final shots.

Work experience

Graphic Designer and Copyeditor

The Corner Club Press

September, 2013 – January, 2015 (over 1 year)

I worked as the layout artist for the CCP literary magazine for all their issues, organizing both the content and all the design elements that went into each. I created the graphic elements within the issues and designed the cover for each. I also was their copyeditor; I oversaw the final edits for each bio and short story that went into the issue and made the necessary grammatical and punctuation corrections before formatting them into each issue. I created a template for the magazine and formatted each issue in its entirety.

Professional Editor and Designer

Rachelle M. N. Shaw is self-employed

October, 2011 – Present (about 5 years)

During my time as an independent editor, I've worked with both published and unpublished authors on manuscripts, short stories, essays, synopses, query letters, and more. My specialty is copyediting, but I have experience in content and developmental editing as well. I have been a beta reader for many friends and clients. I have also worked on a few design projects, including logos, newsletters, and magazines. I am well versed in XHTML and CSS coding, Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, and the MS Office suite. I own software for the Adobe Creative Suite and have the latest version of MS Word.

Technical Writer

Teleflex

June, 2010 – April, 2011 (10 months)

I worked as a technical writer and data analyst for Teleflex, a medical supply company. My duties included editing company documents, recording meeting minutes, analyzing data and creating charts from them, managing projects, writing software tutorials, and handling Engineering Change Orders, or ECOs. I quit my position to be a stay-at-home mom and to pursue work as an independent editor.
