Overview
Following my graduation from a Publishing Studies degree in the fated year 2020, I decided to capitalise on the skills gained during my studies and two internships (Ringwood Publishing, Word Power Books) and pursue a freelancing career. Now, with nearly two years of experience in the freelance editorial sector, I have a thorough knowledge of what it takes to get a book from first draft to final, publish-ready proof.
I offer services which cover all aspects of the editorial process: from early editorial assessments (reader's reports), to developmental editing (beta reading), as well as copy editing, line editing and proofreading. So regardless of what stage your manuscript is at, I can offer a keen eye and constructive feedback.
My portfolio includes a variety of books across the spectrum of literary and commercial trade fiction, including crime thrillers, historical fiction and LGBTQ+ romance. I've also worked on a number of non-fiction titles, such as memoirs, essay collections and true crime.
If you'd like to discuss your manuscript regarding what stage of the editing process you're at and/or what services you'd like to pursue, please don't hesitate to get in touch! I look forward to hopefully working together!

Work experience
Self-employed
Publishing freelancer offering editing and proofreading services for manuscripts, both fiction and non-fiction, at any stage of the editorial process.
During my time as a self-employed editorial freelancer, I've completed approximately 70 projects completed within 16 months of self-employment, which has garnered positive testimonials and returning customers.
Ringwood Publishing
My primary roles at Ringwood were within the editorial and production departments, although I was also responsible for general operations management and administrative duties.
As part of the editorial team, I gained experience in all aspects of the editorial process, from initial manuscript assessment to final proof. I was in charge of maintaining the house style guide, and also for allocating editing and proofreading tasks to the interns. I undertook numerous reader's reports on first-stage manuscripts, assessing their quality, marketability and suitability to Ringwood, as well as estimating the level of editing which would required were the novel to be accepted. I also proofread a range of titles across a variety of genres. As a member of the submissions team, I was also responsible for assessing which of these submitted manuscripts were worthwhile commissioning.
Finally, I copy edited and typeset two trade publications, both literary fiction. I also acted as project manager for these two publications, creating a production timeline which I ensured all departments and interns were held to. Both novels were published on schedule.
Word Power Books
During this valuable internship, I worked for an independent publishing press based in Edinburgh's Lighthouse Bookshop. I project-managed the production of a new edition of a non-fiction title. My primary tasks included proofreading additional content (including an updated introduction and expanded footnotes), a line-by-line edit of the final proof and indexing.
