Stephanie Anderson

Stephanie Anderson – Designer

InDesign interior formatter with over 25 years of experience in layout and typography.

Overview

I love designing books! I work on any type of book from fiction to nonfiction and specialize in complex layouts such as cookbooks and nonfiction books with pull quotes and images. As an InDesign master, I will turn your manuscript into a professionally formatted book that will rival any traditionally published book.

My fascination with layout and typography started in high school when I was on yearbook staff. I chose a career in graphic design based on that love. After 15 years in marketing and graphic design, I started working for a publisher. That’s when I found my home, and I’ve been designing book interiors for over 10 years now. In 2020, I decided it was time to go out on my own to offer services for indie authors.

Whether you want a simple or fancy print book/eBook, I can assist you with having a professional product on the market.

eBook Formatting:
For eBook formatting, I set up your manuscript in Adobe InDesign, export it as an ePUB, then crack it open and make custom tweaks to ensure your eBook meets universal standards. I then use Kindle Previewer to convert the ePUB to a MOBI file. My eBook standards are: 1) small file size, 2) validated, error-free files, 3) match print book, including cover, as much as possible (if applicable), 4) the best possible reading experience for your readers, including accessibility features, and 5) ePUB and MOBI (Kindle) files provided. I offer two formatting levels: 1) a template-based format where you choose between 12 options and 2) a custom design based on your cover and author brand.

Print Formatting
For print formatting, I design your interior in Adobe InDesign, the leading layout software that is used by professional publishers. Your print book will rival any traditionally-published book on the market and provide your readers with the best possible reading experience. My print standards are: 1) professional and proper structure, 2) readable typography, 3) balanced pages, 4) no runts, widows, or orphans, 5) proper justification and hyphenation settings, 6) match overall look and feel of cover for a cohesive book product (with Level 2 Formatting). I offer two formatting levels: 1) a template-based format where you choose between 12 options and 2) a custom design based on your cover and author brand.
