Clear, honest, compassionate editing and coaching that respects your vision for your work while helping you take it to the next level.

Overview

I'm an editor, writing coach, writer, and former college writing instructor with a Master’s degree in English and over fourteen years of editing experience who gets massive amounts of satisfaction from helping writers achieve their goals. I am a partner in your process, one who takes the time to understand your story deeply and give you the right level of feedback for where you are in the writing process.

Since I began freelancing full-time in 2012, I've had the honor of working with authors from all over the United States as well as in Australia, Canada, and the UK on a wide variety of projects: young adult, new adult, and adult; literary, upmarket, and commercial; novels, short stories, and flash fiction; romance, women's fiction, suspense, magical realism, science fiction, fantasy (and sub-genres), science fantasy, surrealism, and absurdism. Some of my past clients have gone on to earn 4+ star ratings on their self-published novels, have their work accepted for publication by literary journals and a small press, and become an RWA Golden Heart Finalist.

In 2016 I had the pleasure of serving twice as an editor in the Pitch to Publication Twitter contest, which I also co-hosted in the fall, and as faculty at the inaugural The Work Conference in New York City. In 2017 I'm a participating editor in the Revise & Resub (#RevPit) contest for querying authors, creator of the #ShoreIndie contest for emerging indie authors, co-editor of an anthology of floating-inspired prose and poetry for Coincidence Control Publishing, and teacher of genre fiction writing at the Show:Tell Workshop for Teen Writers and Artists.

I'm particularly passionate about character-driven narratives that explore important questions about being human in ways that are fresh, accessible, deeply connecting, and entertaining, and I gravitate toward work that's a little off-center from the mainstream, such as cross-genre work and work that challenges societal norms and/or the conventions of a genre.

Float On

This book is a collection of works from writers who have all experienced “floating” - the act of lying supine in a luke-warm pool of salt water in total darkness and silence for extended periods of time. Visits to the Confabulatorium

Soramimi Hanarejima

Hanarejima's arsenal of emotions give the Confabulatorium an extra texture that is truly rare in literature these days. Nothing copycat here; no imitation; a defiant style that bucks the trend. This book has made me ecstatic for his emergence in a culture in dire need of such an authentic, fun, articulate and pretenseless voice.— Zachary Amendt, author of STAY and Open Concept, and the editor ... read more
