M John Harrison

What age-old fragment of DNA links a jobless middle-aged man with a mysterious map, a decaying houseboat, and an ancient form of human life? When Shaw becomes involved with the cult of Annie Swan and her brother Tim, he's dragged into a savage, mythic struggle between species. Lured beneath the surface of everyday life, Shaw soon finds himself lost in The Fourth Domain.
