Jan, 1983 — Present

I first learned to edit fiction when writing my own books. I have published with mainstream publishers (Simon & Schuster, Atheneum, Macmillan) and Christian publishers (Zonderkidz, Thomas Nelson). I also taught writing for children and teens for 27 years, helping writers get published in short forms and books. In content edits, I focus on big things first (character development, plot structure, dialogue, viewpoint, language) plus mechanical issues (grammar, spelling, punctuation). In addition to comments throughout the manuscript, I write detailed (5-6 page single-spaced) critique letters.
