Jessica Cohn

Jessica Cohn – Editor

Developmental editor and copyeditor dedicated to a book's success in the marketplace.

Overview

I graduated from University of North Carolina Wilmington with a BFA in creative writing, minor in English, and a certificate in publishing. I currently work in the hybrid publishing spectrum, but diving in and editing an author's work is my first love. I enjoy both developmental editing and basic copy edit. As long as I am helping a book become the best version of itself then I am happy.

Work experience

Mascot Books

May, 2018 — Present

In the acquisitions department, it is my job to review manuscripts for publication and give general feedback on the overall story. I oversee a book through it's course of production, marketing, and distribution and provide the author with as much advice as I can about the industry.

Since I am not in production, I don't do a deep dive of the text and help develop the manuscript past my initial assessment. Due to my creative writing background in college, editing is something I excel at and miss doing. No matter if a book is going the traditional, hybrid, or self-publishing route, I want to help make it the best it can be.

Dzanc Books

Jun, 2017 — Aug, 2017 (2 months)

I evaluated manuscripts and contest submissions while writing pitches and I created a mock book season. I did the initial copyedit for "This Book Is Not for You" by Daniel A. Hoyt.

UrbanEdge Publishing

Jun, 2017 — Jul, 2017 (about 1 month)

I worked directly with authors to manage their social media accounts and edit their marketing materials including press releases. I also managed UrbanEdge's Pinterest and Twitter accounts.
