Overview
My route into editing has been rather unique. I graduated with a Degree in Molecular & Cellular Biology from the University of Glasgow, and post-University I took on the role of Pharmacovigilance Scientist in the Clinical Research Industry. Pharmacovigilance, or Drug Safety, was a little-known discipline during my time in the industry but has now come to global prominence with the drive to produce vaccines and other treatments for Covid-19 and its variants.
After five years in the sciences, I made the difficult decision to travel the world(!) It was during this time that I made a shift towards more creative work, as well as into teaching. In addition to writing and blogging on the topic of Sustainability I began to employ my knowledge of writing to edit a series of books on the martial arts. One of these books, the Complete Book of Shaolin, as of July 2021, is #257 in the Martial Arts section of the Amazon Kindle store.
In recent years, as a freelancer on Upwork, I took on a variety of fiction novels for the independent publisher Aethon Books. My work here involved preparing manuscripts for publication from immediately after the submission acceptance stage; developmental editing, line editing, copy editing, and proofreading. I have edited more than ten books for Aethon, of an average length of 100,000 words, including some upcoming titles. Several of these books have reached the bestseller-by-category lists on Amazon. For example, as of July 2021, A Tribute at the Gates is at number #130 in the Teen & Young Adult Coming of Age Fantasy eBook section, #195 in Dark Fantasy Horror, and #207 in Low Fantasy.
It's a wonderful feeling to see a book that you helped to birth riding high in the Amazon charts. A feeling that I hope to experience again and again.
If you want to give your book the best chance to soar in those rarified heights, then get in touch and let's make it happen!
