Overview
So, what's it like working with me?
Imagine having a dedicated, impartial partner whose number one mission is to make you look good. Imagine working with someone who sees your vision and what you've done and wants to help you bridge the gap. That's me! I'm not a teacher giving a grade or a critic giving a review. I'm here to make sure that all those things you're nervous about in your manuscript get fixed before those other people see it!
I have a passion for editorial quality and exceptional service. You can expect the personal, engaging experience you deserve along your writing journey.
What's my editorial style?
I strive to bring richness, clarity, and confidence to your authentic voice by eliminating things that detract from your message and showing you opportunities to make it stronger. My goal is for you to look like you knew EXACTLY what you were doing the whole time. ;)
"Simple, clear, elegant, and evocative"—That's my writing mantra and what I want to help you achieve. I specialize in developmental and line editing, but I'm proficient in copy editing and proofreading.
My literary career began in 2014, after studying English Literature and Technical Editing at Arizona State University, where I also served as a tutor in the Writing Center. I advanced my education through professional development courses in writing and editing as well as continued study in Rhetoric and Writing at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
I served as a staff reviewer and mentor at an online writing forum, providing manuscript reviews and coaching to new and experienced writers in fiction and nonfiction. In 2019, I began working as a Developmental Editor for The Author Incubator, specializing in helping new authors plan and develop their self-help books.
My current mission is to help inspired experts, ministers, and leaders make a bigger impact by writing value-packed books. So I specialize in personal growth/self-help, spirituality, memoir, titles with a social justice or diversity focus, and projects representing diverse experiences. (But don't worry if you're not one of these folks! If you just want to help people, you qualify too.)
If any of this sounds like you, don't hesitate to reach out!
Oh! Last thing: I know it can be intimidating to seek an editor, especially if you're a new author or an author from a diverse/underrepresented background. If you need help figuring out what service you need, feel free to mention that. The first thing we'll do is see where you are, where you're going, and what it will take to get you there. (I refuse to sell you any service you don't need!)
