Yecheskel Schwab – Designer

Yecheskel Schwab is a diverse artist that can work in most media and styles.

Overview

Yecheskel “Charlie” Schwab is a native New Yorker, born into a family of artists. It was all around him when he was growing up, and he just had to get involved, too. His love is to create works that show inner beauty and innocence of things, whether it be a cat, a rose, or a tree. Yecheskel Schwab is a diverse artist that can work in most media and styles. His passion for the arts has led him to live a life surrounded by creativity and creative people. From childhood, Yecheskel has been inspired and moved by the arts. From original works of art, to digital paintings, to photography, Yecheskel's world of art has no boundaries. His aspirations have driven him to seek great expectations. His passion is to live life as creatively as possible. He received his BFA degree from the New York University in NYC. Yecheskel “Charlie” Schwab has been selling his prints in galleries throughout New York for many years. Having won numerous awards for his photography in both black & white and color, Yecheskel's work reflects the passion he has for photography. While all his work has its basis in photography, Yecheskel Schwab seeks to emulate their evocations of beauty and color by digitally manipulating images to arrive at an aesthetic effect born in what was, perhaps, a simpler time, through the extraordinary power and sophistication of the computer. He would like to think that thus he may present a gently ironic critique of technology, which has given us so much, but simultaneously threatens to destroy our home. Yecheskel uses only professional grade papers and inks. The papers are a mat finish which enhances the painting-like quality of the picture The inks used are from a printer that uses 6-7 different ink cartridges which sprays on the ink, chemically bonding it to the paper for a vibrant color-lasting picture.

Yecheskel Schwab is a full time artist based in New York who focuses on photography. He often merges aspects of painting, collage, textiles, drawing, sculpture, printmaking and photography. Yecheskel documents the human condition, the natural world and urban life through storytelling. He juxtaposes the uncontrollability of life, which everyone experiences, with the serenity that can be found in nature. He investigates these effects through photos and synthesizes this into artwork. His street photography bears witness to this complex paradigm and his mixed media art attempts to tell its story.
Yecheskel “Charlie” Schwab started working three dimensionally while immersed in film photography by learning historical photographic printing processes at the New York University in NYC.
Photography and his personal growth are intertwined. After two decades of commitment with large format photography that requires a paced and meditative method, Yecheskel Schwab decided to return to a more instinctual approach using 35 mm cameras. In the past, he had chosen to photograph static subjects in isolation, now he allows himself to the abandon of life’s rhythm, and seek beauty in the energy of people’s existence. His aim with this work is not to highlight specific social issues, as much as to explore the universality of the human condition as I sense the spiritual thread that underscores Life in its breadth.
His creative motivation stems from shooting mostly in available light, as well as a study of the way light, or the lack of light, can transform the atmosphere of a scene. For Yecheskel “Charlie” Schwab, this transformation also signifies depth, taking the mundane and transforming it into something dramatic. His appreciation of light and the way it transforms people and objects encourages his expression as an artist, revealing and penetrating each time he creates an image that compels and draws from the soul.
