Lindsey Loucks

Lindsey Loucks – Editor

I'm a copy editor/proofreader/developmental editor with 5+ years of experience. Voted Number 1 Community Favorite Editor at Author Grow.

Overview

As both an award-winning, USA Today bestselling author and a former librarian, I know story structure from the inside out. I can also detect typos and grammatical errors because they often leap off the pages to stab me in the eyes. Good thing I heal quickly!

Some of my clients include New York Times and USA Today bestsellers and award winners. Some often crack the top 100 in the Amazon Kindle store. I've become so familiar with The Chicago Manual of Style, aka the editor bible, that I have page numbers memorized. I’m also such a frequent user of the Merriam-Webster dictionary that I know the proper spelling of seat belt is two words, not one.

In my early days of freelancing, I worked as an Entangled Publishing proofreader and used my strict attention to detail to spot errors or inconsistencies based on the editing style guide.

Some of my favorite genres to edit are romance of all kinds, including erotic, mysteries, urban fantasy, horror, thrillers, science fiction, and dystopian. I have experience with young adult and adult books. Oh, and I have zero triggers.

Clients can expect fast communication from me. I will maintain your meaning and voice while I smooth sentence flow, fix grammar and spelling errors, point out word echoes, and help you shape your story into a stronger, more cohesive work of art.

My natural tendency is to treat everyone with grace, and I’m respectful of diverse thoughts and people, both within words and in the world at large. I’m especially skilled at communicating with dignity.

Testimonials:

"Lindsey Loucks did an amazing job proofreading my manuscript. She really went above and beyond--not only finding the minor errors that hang around after copyediting, but also unburying dialogue and catching word repetition. I immediately asked her to do my next book and I'm so glad she took the job." - Linsey Hall

"Lindsey Loucks did a wonderful job proofreading my Indie manuscript. Not only did she catch grammar and spelling issues, but she also pointed out word echoes, and made developmental suggestions to improve the story. But the biggest area she helped me with was improving my craft weakness in 'burying dialogue.' And she did all of this in a timely manner. I highly recommend her!" - Deb Herbert

"As an author, it can be difficult to find good editors. Fortunately, Lindsey Loucks makes the search easy. She is highly trained on spotting the little mistakes that are often easy to miss. Your manuscript will shine when she is finished with it. I highly recommend her!" ~ Rachel McClellan

"Lindsey did an amazing job helping me with my story. If my pacing or phrasing wasn't working, she not only knew what I was trying to say, but had the perfect way to say it in about half as many words. She will definitely be reviewing any future stories before they are unleashed upon the public! 10 out of 10, would recommend to a friend." - J. Andrew Jansen
