Overview

I specialise in developing non-fiction content for publishers, authors and other organisations. I have 18 years' experience as an in-house editor / publisher in companies such as Pearson, Routledge and Sage Publishing.

During my career I have signed and published over 150 books, including many market-leading titles and series. I designed, commissioned and launched the popular Law Express revision series for law undergraduates, which quickly established itself as market-leader in a highly competitive market. I commissioned and launched the successful Essentials of Nursing textbook series. The lead title in the series was the only textbook nominated for a Bookseller FutureBook award in 2017. I developed the Transforming Nursing Practice series of over fifty titles, used by many student nurses. I have worked on content for innovative digital products including video, assessment banks, companion websites, interactive ebooks and a VR prototype.

As a freelance editor and consultant I offer full text development, market research and commissioning support for publishers, across digital and print products. I have worked with a wide range of companies both large and small, and offer a high level of attention to detail combined with my long experience in understanding how to help authors shape their material and meet deadlines. My subject experience spans a wide range of higher education subjects including:

-Law
-Psychology
-Nursing
-Health and Mental Health
-Business and Management
-Policing
-Major Works/ Reference Handbooks
-A-Level History, PE, Geography, Art & Design and Religious Studies

I can also help shape content for non-fiction authors and other organisations wishing to publish their own materials. As I've worked with so many authors in the past, I understand what pressures authors can face in their writing, and how a good editor can help the process go more smoothly by giving support, structure and realistic time planning and goal setting. I can also advise on what academic publishers are looking for, and how to develop a good concept and proposal.
