Larry VanHoose - Designer

Galax, VA, United States

Creative, vivid design that gets your book noticed. The rest is up to you!

Overview

I am a commercial photographer turned freelance graphic designer. My degree was in commercial photography, but my clients kept getting me involved in their finished design pieces and ultimately I became a turn-key photographer/designer. I have over 25 years experience in the field, own my own full-time graphic design company (Vivid Graphics) and have designed both the covers and inside of dozens of books. Anyone who says you can't judge a book by its cover has never had a great cover design. And my creative design doesn't stop on the outside - my signature feature is that I continue to be creative by working elements of the book's content into the design of the interior. The end result is a book you can be proud of - and be happy to have it "judged" by the most discerning eye.

Writing the Christian Nonfiction Book: Concept to Contract

David E Fessenden

"There are three rules for writing a book," a famous author once said. "Unfortunately, no one knows what they are!" To some extent, the process of writing a book is shrouded in mystery. Based on Dave Fessenden's regular column in Cross & Quill magazine and the seminars he t... read more

A Christian Writer's Guide to the Book Proposal

David E. Fessenden

A complete proposal sells your book, pure and simple. But some authors don't think a proposal is necessary. Perhaps you already have a contract, or you plan to self-publish. If you don't have to sell the book to a publisher, why write a proposal? That reasoning sounds logical, but there are purposes for a book proposal beyond selling it to a publisher. In A Christian Writer's Guide to the Book... read more

The Artisan Teacher: A Field Guide to Skillful Teaching

Mike Rutherford

An artisan is skilled in the applied arts, combining artistic expression, scientific knowledge, and practiced labor to create uniquely valuable works. The most successful gap-closing, achievement-producing teachers view teaching as a craft. Like traditional artisans, Artisan teachers combine art, knowledge, and skill in a labor of love. Not by Sight: One Second. One Bullet. One Life Changed Forever.

Chris Harvey

In 1980, Chris Harvey paused from studying for final exams to talk to his college housemate. Gunshots interrupted their conversation as a drunk randomly fired a hunting rifle from the hillside across the street. One bullet penetrated the side of Chris's house, struck him in the temple, and severed his optic nerves-instantly blinding him. Not by Sight is a story of faith and courage. Chris lost... read more

With Each Passing Moment

Shirley Leonard

Caregivers. Beyond tired, beyond stressed, they hunger for a glimmer of hope. You can see it in their eyes and hear it in their voices. They are stretched way too thin and panic simmers just under the surface. What if the next thing to go wrong makes them snap? With Each Passing Moment, a devotional memoir, offers hope and encouragement for weary caregivers. The short chapters are arranged alp... read more
