My Background:

After 30+ years working in education as a primary teacher, I resigned and moved to the lovely Sunshine Coast of Australia to live near the beach.

Since 2000, I taught at a large Independent private College in Brisbane, Qld Australia; the last six years specialising in teaching gifted & talented children in Creative Writing in the College's Gifted & Talented program as a primary extension teacher. I wrote and developed the creative writing programs for Years Prep through to Year 6, coordinated small group rotations and was directly involved in the College's Gifted & Talented Management Team. Many of my students were successful entrants in external creative writing competitions.

As a life long learner, my curiosity is voracious. I am passionate about books & children and decided to continue my love of teaching creative writing and art to children who share the same passion. It is delightful to see children creating and sharing their ideas.

I created my small business, Shadytree Books, in an effort to provide a number of creative services, including helping writers/authors and story makers polish their creative works through proofreading and editing. On a part time basis, and through word of mouth only, I have helped a small number of authors polish their books ready for publication. This is the first time I have listed globally.

Proofreader/Copy Editor

January, 2007 – December, 2010 (almost 4 years)

I proofread and copy edited for Inspire Publishing, a small independent publisher during this time. A number of my projects went on to be published.

I secured a number of projects on a freelance basis during this time.

Primary Learning Extension Teacher

Citipointe Christian College Brisbane
June, 2000 – December, 2015 (over 15 years)

I specialised in teaching gifted and talented students from Years Prep to Years 6 in creative writing. I developed and wrote innovative programs for small groups of children. Using a variety of approaches and keeping STEAM in mind, children were extended in their thinking and approaches to writing projects using art, drama and many other motivators. My role was more as a facilitator, rather than chalk and talk teacher. I guided and inspired my students to explore many multi-faceted approaches to improve their writing technique and experiences. The program provided a safe environment and helped students develop confidence to share their work with peers. Many of these students were successful in national external writing competitions.
