The author had set his work during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore, and wished to use Japanese in his writing. However, he had a basic command of the language, and the manuscript was riddled with cultural and historical errors and linguistic gaffes. I combed through the manuscript and compiled all the contentious points and gave suggestions as to how they might be improved. I also consulted period films and genre films and personally corrected the Japanese as best I could based on the material available to me.
