As first, a Research Assistant, then a Research Associate, I collected evidence around pertinent topics for care for patients under a Family Physician. I prepared Literature Reviews from recent evidence and wrote Critical Topic Sheets to provide up to date research around common health issues that Family Physicians address; thereby helping them to understand the benefit/risk ratio when making care decisions for their patients. I also proofread correspondence, helped to prepare grant applications, supported faculty and students with Poster preparations. I was involved in many research studies during my time at DFM, where I would help arrive at the protocol; write ethics proposals, prepare questions for participants, recruit participants over the phone, conduct interviews in person and over the phone, run experiments, organize and manage qualitative research groups, transcribing interviews, and writing up the analysis of data collected. I was the Research Associate for an Interpersonal Collaboration project within the clinic, where quantitative and qualitative research was used to measure the level of collaboration between clinic team members, and queries were made to improve communication between all members and with patients. Recommendations were made for positive change at the end of the project. I managed a large research study comparing Health Care provision in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada, corresponding with researchers in the 3 countries, preparing a literature review, writing a research paper, and organizing the research trip. Working in this high-energy atmosphere proved to be a creative experience, with much brainstorming and collaboration between different groups. I thoroughly enjoyed working for CSPC and was sad when my contract finished. Knowing that the work we did improved how patients were cared for was fulfilling.
