Overview

Creative, collaborative editor with seven years' experience guiding and developing writers, both seasoned and new. As a fellow fiction writer, I am always seeking a better understanding of how stories work, and love the challenge of crafting great writing that reflects a great idea. I know how important your story is to you, and I take pride in thoughtful, careful constructive criticism and editing. I also offer editing and proofreading services, and will gladly work with you to improve story structure, character arcs and world building in addition to polishing your prose. My process is as hands on as you are. If you want a partner, I'm here to listen. If you want straightforward suggestions or line edits, I'm here to provide those too. My topics of interest include women's fiction, romance, middle and young adult fiction, cookbooks and educational material.

Work experience

Editor/Content Writer

Self-employed
May, 2015 – Present (over 3 years)

Wordswell Workshops (my freelance service) is focused on developing writers' craft and story and then helping them refine it to be a strong finished work. I offer story structure feedback as well as development editing. In addition, I can provide line editing and proofreading.

Professor of Composition and Literature

Austin Community College
August, 2014 – May, 2017 (over 2 years)

At Austin Community College it is my privilege to help new writers become stronger ones by teaching drafting, revising and editing skills. We work on improving organization, sentence structure, grammar and developing content. It is my belief that strong writing is strong communication, and I want my students' voices to be heard.

I teach literature and composition, focusing on what makes a good story, and why stories are important.

Content Editor

Appyness
June, 2017 – September, 2017 (3 months)

At Appyness, a mobile marketing company, I'm responsible for making sure the website content, blogs and articles fit the voice of the brand. This means that I help improve the organization of a piece, make sentence structure changes, suggest fixes, and proofread for clarity and correctness.

Associate Editor

CSC
August, 2007 – June, 2009 (almost 2 years)

While at CSC, I worked in a fast paced production office responsible for high volumes of work completed under tight deadlines. It was a great learning environment and I credit it with teaching me everything I know about proofreading and making sure deadlines are met and work is meticulous.
