I oversaw the delivery of Welsh Government and Arts Council Wales funded projects as part of the Dylan Thomas 100 festival, A Dylan Odyssey (literary tourism) and Developing Dylan 100 (education) with a team of five people. Responsible for budgets, partnership management, evaluation and reporting, PR and marketing, social media activity and analysis and team management, directly line managing two Project Officers. Other responsibilities included programming 2015 Literary Tours, representing the organisation at key events and meetings, driving Literary Tourism strategy and overseeing delivery of other projects including the WRU/Calon tour with Owen Sheers.

I was a key part of the Sales and Marketing Fiction team at Bonnier Publishing, driving PR for start up children’s and YA publisher Hot Key Books and its launch titles. In addition I planned and managed publicity campaigns for Hot Key Books, Templar Fiction and Piccadilly Press both in house and via external agencies and freelancers. Key aspects of the role included author care, partnership development, organising and managing events and tours, generating media coverage and social media activity. Authors I worked with included Desmond Morris, Sally Gardner, Dawn O'Porter, Maureen Johnson, Anne Cassidy, Garth Nix, Benjamin Zephaniah, James Dawson, Jonny Duddle and many other authors. I also managed the corporate PR for Hot Key Books and Bonnier Publishing.

Web Editor (Children's Books)

Book Trust

September, 2010 – February, 2012 (over 1 year)

As part of the Marketing and Communications team I wrote, commissioned and edited content for the children’s and teen websites including book reviews, themed booklists, interviews, features, illustrators’ galleries and blog posts as well as filming and editing videos. I planned and implemented social media activity, analysed web and social media statistics, oversaw Booktrust’s Children’s and Teen Writers in Residence (Polly Dunbar and Bali Rai), provided children’s books expertise internally including longlisting books for prizes and the Bookstart and Booked Up programmes and was a key contact for children’s publishers. I worked with the web team on the redesign of the new Booktrust website, which launched in November 2011. This included commissioning illustrators and choosing the look and feel of the children’s and teen areas of the site.

As part of the Marketing and Communications team, I planned and managed key events for Booktrust and the Bookstart programme including National Bookstart Day and Booktrust’s conferences. This included producing and distributing promotional materials, timetabling and overseeing staff, managing a staff member and carrying out evaluation. I ensured a Booktrust/Bookstart presence at relevant events, festivals and literacy, literature and party conferences.

Before this I spent six months managing the Nestle Children’s Book Prize and Booktrust Teenage Prize, which included organising the judging process, monitoring publisher’s submissions, producing and distributing promotional materials, overseeing prize ceremonies, liaising with PR consultants, sponsors and partners as well as helping across the rest of Booktrust’s prizes.
