Lechelle Calderwood

Lechelle Calderwood - Designer

Oklahoma City, OK, United States

I specialize in fun, bright illustrations for children's books or any book. I also design book covers and creative page layout.

Overview

I've been designing for over fifteen years. I've designed book covers, created layouts for interior pages, worked on support images, and created illustrations. Even when I taught graphic design, illustration and book design was part of my curriculum. I know CMYK and printing processes but have also created books in electronic format. In the last few years, illustration has become my passion, especially for children's books like Echo and the Most Beautiful Butterfly. My latest project is a series of illustrations called Confetti Cats. I am a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.

Work experience

Graphic Design Instructor

Canadian Valley Technology Center
June, 2014 – May, 2016 (almost 2 years)

I taught graphic design to high school students with a curriculum that I wrote and designed. My classroom was full of illustrations and designs that I created as examples for students. Color, typography, and illustration are important to me, and I emphasized these topics with the students. I also helped students learn Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. We helped community clients and created their projects with our own in-house advertising agency. I was awarded an educational grant to publish a book called The Storm That Hit Home that my students wrote, illustrated, and designed. I loved working on this project with them and seeing their skills blossom.

Senior Graphic Designer

Oklahoma City University
July, 2007 – May, 2014 (almost 7 years)

I designed the alumni magazine for the university and created posters, ads, invitations, shirts, catalogs, and other projects. My daily duties included photo sourcing, photo editing (re-touching and preparing for print production), designing layouts of multiple page documents, structuring information for complex course catalogs, coordinating production needs with clients, working with printing companies, attending press checks, creating vector illustrations and logos, and assisting editors, photographers, marketing, and clients on any task needed towards producing the university magazine. I also helped proof and edit text.

Graphic Designer

Eskimo Joe’s Clothes and Restaurants
September, 2003 – October, 2006 (about 3 years)

I designed the Eskimo Joe's Clothes catalogs, product mailers, food menus, band posters, brochures, billboards, ads, and apparel. My tasks ranged from photoshoot art direction and styling, photo editing, page layout, and text corrections to creating designs and illustrations for children’s and women’s clothes and anything in-between.

Graphic Design Supervisor

Truman State University
August, 2001 – August, 2003 (about 2 years)

I designed the university's alumni magazine and created posters, shirts, banners, ads, invitations, and other projects. I also designed book covers for Truman State University Press which was located on campus. I met with clients, worked with on-campus and off-campus printers, and supervised the student designers.
