Larry Weiner - Designer

Bainbridge Island, WA, United States

Art director & Book cover designer and large format photog. I specialize in artistic fantasy, Science Fiction and Young Adults covers.

Overview

12 milliseconds. That's how long it takes the human brain to read an image. How many covers do you digest online or at a bookstore? Sobering, huh? I've been an art director & designer for 18 years. I know how easy it is to lose attention spans. When it comes to capturing eyeballs, I rely on my toolbox - stunning imagery, engaging type, color that sets the tone. Storytelling done in the blink of an eye.

But it only happens with collaboration. By working through the idea, distilling it down to a single story moment, we can save time and represent your ideas succinctly. Then I usually come back with images, typefaces, or if in a time crunch - digital sketches. But it's all about the collaboration of ideas. The storytelling begins on the cover.

I’ve worked with big companies (Starbucks, RCA Records, Microsoft, AT&T, HP) and small ones (TAZO Tea, Iowa Press, Inland-Joseph Apples, UW Medicine). I’m an accomplished photo illustrator and large format photographer. I graduated the CSULA Film School. I've put my focus on book covers as I am also a writer with three published novels. I wrote the novels to get the design job. Kidding. Sort of.

Once Again, With Blood (The Island Trilogy) (Volume 2)

Larry Weiner

We’re getting the band back together!” For Kyle Brightman, bipolar advertising-industry burnout, this is good news and bad news. Good, because he’ll get to see his zombie-killing friends again, and be reunited with Cate, the zombie he loves (yeah, yeah, I know, read PARADISE ROT and you’ll get it). Bad, because having to blast his way through battalions of bloodless corpses took a brutal toll ... read more
