Illustrated Book Covers

Operation: Odyssey

Sean Corbin

Designed by JOSE F.

Available to hire

"The cover seeks to evoke a tone of adventure and action, drawing references from Ancient Greek Art and mixing them with elements of modern science fiction. In this way, the illustration together with the typography enhances this blend of such different worlds and eras that coexist in a marvelous story."

Contemplations

Gustavo Alonso Montalvo

Designed by Raúl L.

Available to hire

"The challenge of this cover was how to represent in a conceptual way the content of the book. It brought together poems in English, Spanish, French, and German, including a fifteen-piece series based on Francisco de Goya’s “Pinturas Negras” alongside thought pieces, a narrative excerpt, and a journalistic article. After many tryouts in different directions I ended up with this illustration of some pieces stacking in a non-stable balance where all of them hold the others."

Dr. Paging Solomon

Lauria D. Kerr

Designed by Colleen C.

Available to hire

“The world of Dr. Solomon, is much like our own—except Lauria has given our canine friends a voice, and the world is made richer for it. A source of levity and comfort in Lauria’s own life in her long years of dealing with a chronic illness, Solomon anchors the pale, washed out clinical background of the hospital with his warm, deep earthy tones.”

Farewell, New York

Tianshi Suo

Designed by Nvard Y.

Available to hire

"For Tianshi Suo’s debut novel, the cover is built around the one object Vicky carries with her to New York: her late father’s ocean-blue notebook of unpublished poetry. By opening the notebook into the city skyline, the design connects his private creative world with a city shaped by ambition, possibility, and moral danger. The small figure and restrained composition add a sense of vulnerability and unease as she tries to protect both his legacy and her own identity."

Dojo Ryan

Matthew Dillon

Designed by Alexander N.

Available to hire

"Although this novel is about wrestling, we wanted to avoid any obvious aesthetic references to wrestling and instead opted for an abstract expressionist illustration. The illustration needed to capture movement and thoughtfulness."

Death in the Time of Suburbia

Alessandra Jacobs

Designed by Alexander N.

Available to hire

"This cover illustrates the psychological space occupied by the main protagonist who longs to escape what she feels is the prison of suburbia. The story deals with social disharmony and the dissolution of national identity revolving around an car accident set to the backdrop of mundane suburban life. The bust used for the illustration is from a sculpture called 'America' made in 1854 by Hiram Powers."

Goblins: The Sword and the Serpent

Abbey Hunt

Designed by Marta D.

Available to hire

"The goal of this cover design was to bring to mind old, medieval chronicles - since one of the main characters is a chronicler. This effect was achieved by using a leather-like background texture, a richly decorated border, and a warm, gold illustration showcasing the heroic deeds of the goblins. Each detail used on the cover is reflected in the actual story - from the goblin knight's armour, to the spikes on the serpent's head."

Neither Fear Ye Their Fear

Stephen Dethloff

Designed by Rannia M.

"The cover captures a dark, ominous atmosphere through a stylized silhouette of the Assyrian Lamassu, framed in a geometric composition. By layering raw, high-contrast block-print typography over a textured red motif, the design creates an urgent, expressive aesthetic that communicates tension while remaining striking at any scale."

Little Bird

Claire Buttrum

Designed by Pascale H.

Available to hire

"Claire’s novel is incredibly evocative of ordinary family life. Each character is portrayed with love and affection and it was this intimacy that I tried to evoke with the cover. Crackers and water are integral to the story and they seemed to also represent the time when a family comes together, around the kitchen table. The hand drawn type helps to make the illustration look friendly and approachable."

Reputation

Amanda Coreishy

Designed by Alexander N.

Available to hire

"The illustration for this cover hints at key points in the novel. We wanted to capture the colour and vibrancy of Trinidad and Tobago with the mango trees while also illustrating the main plot point of the story - that of an intimate photograph used as collateral to trap the main character. "

Unspoken

Abena Amoah

Designed by Euan M.

Available to hire

"As for the covers of many poetry books, this is hard to explain in brief! Abena’s poems needed something calm but not soft. The natural world was an obvious touchpoint, and in fact a blackbird was one of the ideas in the original brief. Quite unusually, this specific design remained unchanged through the concepting process."

Followives

Irene Perali

Designed by Carolina A.

Available to hire

"The cover evokes the duality between two worlds: Milan and Silicon Valley. Through its illustrated composition and thoughtful creative development, it conveys a sense of both displacement and belonging, reflecting the emotional essence of the story. The design is both striking and bold, while the color palette lends it a strong and distinctive visual identity. The result is a modern cover that captures the conceptual essence of the novel at first glance."

Transform Chaos Into Clarity

Joseph Chiabrera

Designed by Simona D.

Available to hire

"The cover aims to evoke a sense of clarity emerging from complexity. Using the playful metaphor of tangled threads being knitted into an orderly form, the illustration reflects the journey from overthinking and mental clutter to confident, clear decision-making. Bright, vibrant colours create an approachable, engaging tone while drawing immediate attention to the book’s core message: transforming chaos into clarity."

Queentide

Donna Fisher

Designed by Milica S.

Available to hire

"This design explores power and revolution in near-future Australia. The concept focuses on the 'tide' of political change, visually represented through the rhythmic lines of the protagonist's hair that double as rising waves. A striking pink crown serves as a bold, disruptive symbol of the movement’s ultimate goal: to seize authority and rewrite the rules of a failing system."

Marlow

Ross Neild

Designed by Andy C.

Available to hire

"Featuring a daring mouse hero at the heart of the action, the artwork captures the spirit of classic adventure tales while embracing the story's playful charm. The background features are kept minimal to offset the dynamic pose and so make the whole scene stand out visually but what details we do see hint at the adventure to come. The title font has classical roots but a playful character and completes the design, complementing the story's adventurous and humorous tone."

Big Bruiser: The Adventures of Fanny & Waggy

TFL Tim Locke

Designed by Roberta Z.

Available to hire

"The book speaks of playful childhood memories in a sweetly nostalgic, but also remarkably humorous voice. I used the detail of a young leg on a bike to evoke the feeling of adventurous escapades and scraped knees characteristic of boyhood. The title, which I love, does a great job suggesting what a reader might find inside, so I put it big bold letters and conveyed the atmosphere by contrasting it with the pencil and watercolor soft tones."

Jasmine

Oliver Edlin

Designed by Dali W.

Available to hire

“The cover grew from an original mixed-media mountainscape painting, expanded across the full wrap to mirror Johnny and Jasmine’s emotional terrain. The eye moves from the campfire and Johnny’s warm colour, toward Jasmine’s greyscale figure, then up through the diagonal title, mountain ridges, and opening sky. I wanted the design to feel like a visual journey through grief, liminality, and the fragile possibility of returning to life.”

The Witch with an Itch!

Kirsty Stevens

Designed by Nicola R.

Available to hire

"I wanted this cover to feel instantly playful and a little bit chaotic. The upside-down composition gives the witch a sense of movement and curiosity, while the loose brush marks and wonky linework help reflect the humour and energy of the story."

Looking At Luna

The Half of It

Theresa Christine

Designed by Morgane F.

"For this small-town romance set in Ireland, I wanted to depict the couple during an intimate moment from the story. The illustration invites readers on a journey while highlighting the characters' emotional bond, through a romantic gesture set in a vibrant landscape. The rounded, high-contrast typography adds warmth and elegance, echoing the novel's heartfelt atmosphere."

Brock Smith and the Dagger of Souls

Jeremy Deshazer, Jackson Deshazer

Designed by Charles U.

Available to hire

"This project was a collaboration through and through. This cover needed something striking and iconic that also showed its unique elements. We went with a figure reaching up against the pull of dark tendrils to encapsulate the story’s larger themes, while the dragon and fox tease us with what is distinct in this story. The dagger, armor, and knife on the chest are all specific characters details that sent it home and grounded the cover in this particular story."

"Here we have “character with a sword looking cool,” but done in a way that prioritizes story. He walks away from us, his face illuminated by the glow from his hand, suggesting that he is lost in power and unwilling to face his challenges head on. The book’s worlds were vast and exiting which gave me a chance to play with cool rocks and color palettes. Finally, the graphic red weapons in the foreground suggests an awareness of the genre, that some tropes might be both present and subverted."

Atlas

Michelle Weiss

Designed by Nicola R.

Available to hire

"For Atlas, I wanted the cover to feel thoughtful but still full of personality. The characters are placed around Atlas but not engaging with him to hint at the social side of the story, while the big hand-drawn title, soft textures, and slightly imperfect linework give it a childlike, expressive feel."

Smashed Idols

Claire Deering

Designed by Natàlia P.

Available to hire

"I wanted the cover to be eye-catching while conveying the intimate nature of a memoir. In a minimalist way, it connects to themes of empathy, care, and motherhood through the image of a body carrying, or being carried by, flowers and stars. The illustration carries strong symbolic weight, while the typography frames and reinforces its sense of intimacy."

On the Run

William Shaw

Designed by Peter S.

Available to hire

"The novel follows a young Irishman sent to the States to escape the Troubles, where he becomes a successful track runner — only for the Troubles to keep dogging him. The design uses the Irish flag’s orange and green, overlaid with a pixelated black-and-white runner cropped at head and feet. That harsh contrast and truncated figure suggest that, however fast he runs, he can’t outrun Ireland or his past."

Things I Never Got to Tell You

Alfred Saves the Day

Charlie Tyrell

Designed by Evgenia P.

Available to hire

"Tiny mouse, towering cheeses, and one warm palette: Alfred is firmly in his world, yet his posture hints at mischief and possibility. The cosy terracotta background invites readers in, while the contrast between tiny mouse and monumental cheese stack sets up the central joke: that someone so small could cause so much chaos. Loose, expressive linework keeps the tone playful, promising humour and heart."

Zodak: The Last Shielder

Lonely Space

Tristan Wolsleger

Designed by Caitlin B. A.

"Given the focus on this book's main character's inner life and struggles, the cover centers the subtle emotion on Beatrice's face, surrounded by a dark and ominous color palette. The typography references current sci-fi genre trends, complemented by the background space gradient texture, to indicate a feeling of isolation and mystery."

The Dazzling Magic of a Petit Four

Kathryn Rose

Designed by Roberta Z.

Available to hire

"The cover is shaped like a 1920s tarot card, with a nod to Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby to signal the Twenties: a world of sublime elegance and magic spells. I immersed myself in Art Deco interiors, fashion, and typefaces, working closely with the author to hone every detail. The aim was atmosphere over summary, but readers will enjoy spotting the hidden hints — Paris, a pentagram, cake, a black cat — and feel they’re holding something precious."

The Death and Life of Amy Smith

Cam Lamblin

Designed by Victoria H.

Available to hire

"Cam’s story is full of life (despite being about death) and contains a wealth of vivid imagery – in fact, there was so much to choose from that I very quickly began playing with this grid format in my designs. It allowed me to solidly locate the book in London, while simultaneously picking out some of the eye-catching key elements from the story. The bold and vibrant use of colour then sets the tone for the book to potential readers, speaking directly to the contemporary fiction market."

Nelly Finds Her Niche

Lauren Trout

"This picture book called for illustrations full of charm and heart with the cute fun characters and storylines, whilst avoiding infantilising or talking down to the reader. All the typography is original for this cover and is hand drawn."
