#344 Stranger than Fiction with Zack McDonald

This week, we're running a takeover in collaboration with Zack McDonald! This contest’s winner will not only be awarded $250 — they’ll also receive personal feedback from Zack himself! Here's what he has to say about his takeover:

What’s up, writers!

I’m Zack McDonald, and perhaps like many of you, I’m a self-published author seeking to break into the traditional publishing world. I’m a stubborn writer who won’t take no for an answer when it comes to my story about musical magic, so much so that I’ve rewritten it more times than I can count, even tearing it down after it debuted as a #1 new release on Amazon. This summer, I’m querying it as a completely new book. You can stay up to date with my journey over on my Instagram.

As a writer and reader, I’ve found that there is constant dialogue between history and fiction; one informs the other, and back and forth they go in their narrative dance. Both play important roles in the progression of a story, whether it is sequestered to the decision-making of the individual or seen as a greater framework for a society. All stories from the past inform our present and future, which is why it is so important to remember, to learn, and to keep telling. Telling stories is our history.

This week’s theme is all about looking back into our past through the use of stories. And who’s to say who got it right? History is a murky thing; who knows what could have really happened or what details have been left out? Use your creativity to write within these fissures in time.

Happy writing!
