Falling Alone

Weekly Contest #370

*Trigger Warning* Contains an explicit SA. Author's note: As always, this story can be read as a stand alone, but you'll have more context if you read the other Falling stories. The order of which is listed in my bio. When crafting this series, it's been hard to know how far to push. It deals with heavy material that I don't take lightly. This story is probably the most sensitive one out of them all. While I debated whether to tell this part of the story, I felt that the prompt was right. It wasn't easy to write. Please let me know your tho...

Picking up the Pieces

Weekly Contest #369

***Trigger Warning*** Discusses mental health with a mention of suicide. She stopped at the door to her office focusing her attention on the poster that she had crafted. One corner had peeled away from the door. The cut out letters were skewed. Like Jo, some of them were coming unglued. “It’s alright. You did your best.” She whispered to the letters, or maybe to herself. The loyal soldiers were ready to jump off the page to follow her out in protest. She slowly traced them with her finger pressing them back into place as she went. L-E-G- ...

Señor and Mr. Smith

Weekly Contest #365

At the pinnacle of Ritchie’s career directors groveled and fans flocked to see him. Now, however, he was about ready to prostitute himself for the next available movie, tv show, or hell, commercial gig he could find. He’d considered seeking a book deal, but second guessed anyone’s interest in a washed up - “seasoned” as his wife would lovingly say - actor, so the idea continued to linger. While Ritchie and his wife, Jayne, were by no means destitute, and were still “rich” by most people standards, if he didn’t get a job in the near future, t...

Thou Shalt Not

Weekly Contest #361

***Author's note: This story contains sex scenes and swearing. This story felt wrong to write, but hopefully it feels wrong to read in a good way. If that makes any sense. There's more I can say, but I'll just leave it at that. Let me know what you think! Summer was over, and so were we. We existed outside of reality while the days were hot and long, but as soon as the air caught a cold chill, the real world put us in separate time out chairs complete with dunce caps. Somewhere along the way, in my desperate attempt to find a companion, I t...

Falling Again

Weekly Contest #354

**Trigger warning** This story contains DV and SA. **Author's Note** This story is a direct sequel to Falling Forward and is part of the Falling series. As Caleb pushed Jenny down the ER hallway, a few people in scrubs had surrounded them. They quickly brought her into a small room that had a curtain for a door. Never an attention seeker, somehow she had been drawn into the spotlight right at center stage. This caused her to slouch in the chair. Caleb, still behind, leaned toward her ear. “Jenny, you’re in good hands.” He introduced her ...

Eggshells

Weekly Contest #298

**Author's note** This story contains the death of a child and suicide. Words cannot put Humpty Dumpty back together again and neither can superglue.Even if every puzzle piece of shattered eggshell was perfectly placed back to its correct spot, the cracks would remain visible, and even if by chance the cracks were no longer visible, Humpty Dumpty would not be structurally sound. The glued bits make him weaker, susceptible to breaking all over again, although my wife and I have not even attempted to put him back together; we haven’t sought ...

Is That Not Flirting?

Weekly Contest #294

Dear Noah Robert Williams, III, Esq., I feel compelled to use your full name. It may be childish, but I believe childish and flirtatious are sometimes, as in my case, synonymous. I added the esquire for fun because we’ve earned it, damn it. Not many people liked the alphabetical seating arrangement, but I secretly did, although it’s probably not so secret anymore. I’m not a subtle person. Somewhere along the way I lost my filter. I think undergrad (Didn’t your mom go there as well?) corrupted me; that’s a story for a different day. We...

Climbing the Chemical Mountain

Weekly Contest #291

**Author’s note: I feel as if I’ve gone into the weeds on this one, but I couldn’t give up on it. Also, my grammar may not be great. Any suggestions would be appreciated.** Whether it was green or yellow could be debated, but that would only cause the same stupid debacle as the infamous color changing dress. The bottle is green, but the content is different. Yellow-green, yes, that’s acceptable, or rather, will have to do. Whatever color it happens to be, one thing is certain, it’s neon. By now, Millie assumed that her insides glowed in th...

Curious Meet Up

Weekly Contest #290

*Author’s note: This story is a sequel to Curious Rescue. When Carter laid his eyes on her this time, she was very much alive and unbroken. Her body radiated warmth and color had returned to her face; it was no longer bloody or swollen either. “You know, I had myself convinced that you were a fabrication.” She said. “Is that so?” “Yes, I mean it was you, right?” “It was me that did what?” He furrowed his brows and titled his head. “On the mountain…You saved me…” “Right time, right place is all.” “No.” She hastily wiped her eyes with...

The Devil Wears Heels

Weekly Contest #272

**Trigger warning: This story has it all: alcoholism, swearing, violence, sex, and sex assault. *** The alcohol quelled their inner demons while the masks allowed the bar patrons to hide from the outer ones. Some hid under elaborate costumes, while others were scantily clad assuring themselves that it was just for Halloween. They could all go back to being pious tomorrow. Speaking of which, he never thought he’d see a nun in a bar, but she’s not what drew his attention. Sitting next to the sister was a woman. Red devil horns adorned her blo...

The Hart-felt Heroine

Weekly Contest #271

Officer Rosalie Hart had high ambitions when she graduated from the police academy. Donning her badge like a superhero cape, she was ready for justice. She had the eagerness and excitement of Judy Hopps (Yes, the rabbit from Zootopia) and at twenty-one years old, she knew everything there was to know about life. Over the years, however, she learned how wrong she had been, and now, at thirty-one, Officer Hart was well aware of how much life still had to teach her. For instance, when her service weapon was placed in her hands, she envisioned ...

Forward Falling

Weekly Contest #270

**Author's note** This story can be read alone, but it's a sequel of sorts to Falling Forward and it references Falling Down. **Trigger warning** contains references to domestic violence and sexual assault All he wanted to do was curl up in a cave of blankets and sleep forever, but being the selfless-to a fault-person that he was, he found himself saying yes to his sister’s lunch invitation. He almost immediately regretted his decision; however, when he walked through the door. “You look like shit.” She said. “Gee, thanks Evie. Hello, to...

Anything but Evident

Weekly Contest #259

Author’s note: This story is a sequel to Anything but Elementary. ***Trigger Warning*** contains discussion about eating disorders Rhett watched as Tricia pushed her food around on her plate. Every now and then she would bring a minuscule bite to her mouth. “Tricia, stop playing with your food and eat it.” He nudged her. His lightheartedness masked his concern. “I am eating.” Tricia said rolling her eyes. She took a forkful of food and shoved it into her mouth. In contrast to Tricia, Rhett could not eat his food fast enough. He inhaled i...

Is Chering Caring?

Weekly Contest #234

*Trigger warning: this story contains sex and cursing.* Regina’s suspicions and reality collided with loud banging. Two bodies, in pure form, were committing an impure act. Both were equally caught up in their carnality; the intruder had gone temporarily unnoticed. The bang of the slamming door finally caught their attention. Julian scrambled to disentangle himself from his paramour. She flew out of the room, down the stairs, and out the door using only the sheet for coverage. He threw on a pair of pants and left the room. He found his wife...
