This is an important message, Reedsy.
Our friend Ari Reynes, has been downvoted from 4,600 to 1,000. This is unacceptable and the hard-worked for points are gone-poof. This isn't a threat, but a lot of people are taking breaks from Reedsy. Some aren't sure about coming back.
Blxxii plans on leaving Reedsy for the sake of downvoters- (She is more concerned about her friends.)
I, Carolina Shaw, plan on staying Reedsy for the sake of stopping downvoters- I am more concerned about my friends.
This is a time when downvoters are striking the most-either from multiple accounts or just from teaming.
Sadly, the Marshmallows are practically gone.
I wasn't here when all that happened, however, I suspect that that's the reason why Marshmallows were created; the cause of downvoters.
I have just checked, and many of my friends were downvoted 5,000 points down. Literally. Want me to list a view? Sure! I'll gladly, but I bet that'll be the rest of the story.

As you can see, downvoting is making people feel... hurt. Perhaps it may sound stupid just to quit Reedsy just because of some stupid downvoters-well, it is. Wanna know why? 'Cuz your friends are just gonna be there and upvote you. When others were downvoted, it was a battle between the downvoters and our friends (obviously our friends won.)
The upvoting button SHOULD BE A THING.

Lost around 300/200 points last night while I was sleeping ahahahahah, I honestly donโt care, but it really can hurt some people. Donโt get why people do it, but theyโll always be bad people in this world. Iโll copy paste this in a prompt that kinda fits so that it gets accepted (hopefully). Love ya, and remember that Reedsy is more than points. Thereโs talent and writing here too! Have fun guys, but letโs stop with the downvoting, do you really get a kick out of it?

Constructive critism is one thing, but hating and making the author feel disliked is another. I'm glad you are talking about this because this has gone on for too long.

I'm sorry, I am new to this site and I was trying to figure out where the down button is so I can avoid it. I see the likes thumbs up and the comments, but I'm missing where the down arrow is. Maybe that information might help us newbies.

Ok! totally fine. If you look at your username, go to the left where it says "1 point". Then, to the left of that, there are to triangles, one upsidedown and the other right side up. The right side up is upvoting, the upside down is downvoting. :)

It's not the points I'm concerned about; it's the treatment of my fellow writers. I want our time and effort to be honestly appreciated, not beaten down into the dust.
I have a rule of thumb: If I don't like a story for whatever reason, I don't downvote it. I try to find another story (by the same writer or by a different writer) and read that instead. Everyone has different tastes and we won't always agree with each other (which is okay by me).
I know from my own experience what it's like not having honest support and encouragement when it comes to creativity. I seriously don't think I would've written so many stories (especially the sequels) without it. I certainly wouldn't have strayed outside the lines (and outside the "box") as often as I have if I thought that there wasn't anyone who might be interested in my unusual stories. I'm constantly amazed that a story or series of stories that I thought were just too unusual for this website still manage to find readers who not only enjoyed reading them but (just as important) honestly wanted more of the overall story. We are thriving because we are in a positive environment, where we try our best to help each other improve as much as possible.

Maybe things will improve in the future and there will be some other method for gauging a writer's improvements instead of points. I don't know what that would be. Maybe have tiers:
Tier 1 - idea/inspiration/prompt.
Tier 2 - poem.
Tier 3 - poem collection.
Tier 4 - flash story.
Tier 5 - flash story collection.
Tier 6 - short story.
Tier 7 - short story collection.
Tier 8 - novella.
Tier 9 - novella collection.
Tier 10 - novel/epic poem.
Tier 11 - trilogy.
Tier 12 - series of 5 books.
Tier 13 - ongoing series (more than 5 books).
Tier 13 wouldn't be *better* than Tier 1; it would be just a different tier. Also, one could go sideways after reaching another tier, rather than continuing upwards. It would just depend on the specific writer's interests and goals. And it wouldn't be an overall "score", because at any time, a writer might be working different kinds of creative writing. Each submission could be assigned to a tier, so that if a writer spends more time on that tier, there will obviously be more submissions there for people to read.
Just brainstorming here.

I just thought it made it less of a competition and more of a gauge of progress/improvement. Also, it means that if someone tries again to "punish" certain writers, it might prove to be more difficult to do so; the anonymous "trolls" wouldn't be able to cheat their way to a top score; there would be no such thing anymore; which hopefully would discourage such "trolls"; for some "trolls", getting the top score seems to matter more than anything because it gives them something to brag about and lord over the others on the listing.
It also allows a writer to choose which creative writing direction they wanted to go into (even if it means more than one direction at a time). For instance, I've written poems and short stories. I might stay in those areas, or I might want to try one of the other areas.
However, it would probably mean a major revamping of the scoring system, and it might prove to be too difficult to build and implement after two years of the current scoring system. If I knew how to set up a website like this one, I would use the tier system instead.
Wishful thinking probably, but who knows? Maybe someday, somehow, there might be a way to make it a reality. One can hope.

go to coolfont.org, type what you want, then theres a button that says copy next to the one you like. after you copy that, go into your profile and change your name. Paste in the special font and voila! :)

What if each account only gets so many downvotes each week (5-10 or so)
That way, both sides are happy, you can downvote when necessary, but no one will be down voted a ton of points at a time

Yes! ^^^^^^ this is a great idea! Because I have had to downvote someone before (they were spamming and being unkind) and therefore so if it IS necessary, it can happen.
the only problem I see is that people could make a ton of alt accounts.

Yeah, I did realize that. But, it would make it a lot harder to downvote someone. You would have to have 10-20 different emails. By then, itโs not really worth it.
