Trigger Warning: This short story contains Mature Themes, Animal and Zombie Violence, and Gore. Bite Me Part 1- Flight of the Mosquito As we emerged from the stagnant water, we took flight and headed straight towards blood. We could smell a fresh kill in the air, so we flew faster. It is hard being a mosquito. So many creatures want to eat you, but then again, I want to eat and suck on so many creatures every second of every day. Lord knows I try. We saw an island, and we had a bad feeling. We were always drawn to the natives. Their swea...

“Sayemontess: The Beginning” #ReedsyUnknown

Weekly Contest #279

Trigger Warning: This short story contains Strong Sexual Content, Nudity, Gore, Violent Content, Some Language and Mild Drug Use. Sayemontess: The Beginning I was born in the galley of a ship that headed towards Sayemontess, a castle that had been long forgotten by the locals. No one dared to go near it. Well, except for us. My mother told me when I was four that the wind was violent, and the clouds grew darker by the minute. A storm was brewing right above our heads, but we made it into Sayemontess by the grace of God just before the stor...

“It’s Just Me.” #ReedsyUnknown

Weekly Contest #279

Trigger Warning: This short story contains mental health issues, and moments of madness. Some demonic content lies ahead, as well. It’s Just Me. There was no water. I wanted to kill myself, or drop dead from thirst. I had to take my meds with water. Lots of it. Twenty-three different pills a day. From Trazadone to Oxicodone to Tylenol, and what have you. Whatever I could find in a dead drifter’s backpack. I haven’t seen a drifter in days, though. So, what to do? Fight for it? Get it. Get ‘er done? Water. Life. What they call the nectar of...

“Green Eyes” #ReedsyUnknown

Weekly Contest #279

Trigger Warning: This piece of fiction contains suspense, some violence, and insinuated animal cruelty. Green Eyes The alley cat made me do it. It was a Thursday night, and I was new in town. “Never go out after midnight.” Said my landlord, Walter. “Nothing good happens after midnight.” I had no problem with this, except I woke up at three in the morning with a terrible headache, and I just wanted to have a cigarette on my front porch, so I did. I’m a twenty-three-year-old woman. I have mace. It was chilly out, so I knew to smoke my ciga...

“I Wanna Lick You Up and Down. Make You Sweat.” #ReedsyBewitched

Weekly Contest #275

Trigger Warning: This short story contains mature themes, self-harm/suicide, brief strong language, gore, and sexual content. “I Wanna Lick You Up and Down. Make You Sweat.” By Tucker Bradley Sloan Do you believe in love at first sight? First touch? First flirtation? I do now. “Don’t you dare!” I yelled meanly at my favorite creature- our sweet, black cat who was playing in the entryway causing the doors to open and shut letting rain blow into the atrium. She was eyeing the ashtray trashcan. She wanted to tip it over and see what was ins...

The Goddess of Hell by Tucker Bradley Sloan Trigger warning: Some Strong Language, Sexual Content, and Hellish Themes. Now, are you ready for a bedtime story? ——— As Persephone gathered souls in the underworld for her husband, Hades, I summoned angels. There was to be a spiritual battle at midnight, and I would win. Things of the Past Dried apricots were her favorite, but ever since the surgery- she could not eat them. This made Clarissa sad. She was jealous of her friends who could eat everything they wanted. You Shall Go Into That Closet, And Take Off All Your Clothes

Weekly Contest #273

You Shall Go into That Closet, and Take Off All Your Clothes By: Tucker Bradley Sloan TRIGGER WARNING: Strong sexual content and dialogue, language, bizarre behavior, brutal and sexual violence, gore. As we approached, I recognized the castle from an old book. It was Sayemontess. It was real. So, whatever challenge may lie ahead, it was all set up by Dominic. I had received his childishly written invitation. All his I’s were dotted with circles. His driver had nice music. I would never forget the following lyric: “And the time will be our t...

Cursed Beasts of the Woods and Hills

Weekly Contest #272

Trigger warning: This piece contains violence, mature themes, and some strong language. Cursed Beasts of the Woods and Hills Tucker Bradley Sloan It gets cold at night. Some people think fur keeps you warm, but mine makes me itch. The way it quickly grows through my skin, covering my bare body in the moonlight. Not to mention, it makes using toilet paper impossible. We have had to resort to other means for cleanliness. What? You do not want to know. Mom was turned first with a curse by a cripple who was blocking a covered bridge she had t...

Pleasant Hill

Weekly Contest #272

The Pleasant Hill Bed and Breakfast only had four guest rooms, and it sat on a hilltop surrounded by stunningly beautiful trees that had changed colors just in time for Halloween. There was one vacancy, and Pam had been slaving away in the kitchen making a turducken for her guests. The preparation process was not very appetizing, but once it was fully cooked, the guests, one-by-one, would descend the stairs from the second floor, and they would sit in the dining room salivating like mad dogs. Oh! The wine! She forgot to get wine for dinner. ...

Johnny Be Good, Please.

Weekly Contest #272

Johnny Be Good, Please. Trigger Warning: This short story contains gun violence and mature themes. John was a stupid name. A family name. A name I was stuck with. I wanted to change it in second grade when a fellow student began calling me Johnny B- after a character he saw in a movie once. “My name is John!” I told him right before I smacked his lower lip. I could hit pretty hard for a second grader. You had better watch out. This is when I learned that I had power over other people. One little smack taught me a lesson. A teacher saw the ...

An Apartment to Die For

Weekly Contest #272

Triggers: Violence, language, brief sexual violence. An Apartment to Die For “A word after a word after a word is power.” -Margaret Atwood- Prologue There are three rules. Do not ever piss off a writer. Never upset or underestimate someone who is good with words, and never, under any circumstances can you get the fuck in my way. Now, shall we begin? Part 1 Lard-Ass and the Real Prize Winner There was a man that I called Lard-Ass, but trust me, that was not the worst nickname he received. He told me one evening when I was in a frenzy, “I h...

Her First Orchid

Weekly Contest #271

Her First Orchid Tucker Bradley Sloan -This short story contains some substance abuse material, and mature themes. Sally was shopping and spending more money than she should have for her husband’s upcoming birthday. 2010 was going to be a good year for the couple. Her eyes hit an orchid, and she said, “Come to my house. Come to my house to die.” Four months later- she still had that orchid. It had turned into an ugly little thing. All brown and blotchy with damp peat moss that smelled like fertilizer. One might say, “What’s the point in k...
