Pattern

When I entered the game house, the manner they sat, the subdued atmosphere, the way they were behaving as if there was burial on not world cup, I knew some forces were ahead of me to the hub before I got there. "Do they asked us not to charge our wares yet?" I inquired of a fellow that busied himself with his phone you can easily see his mind isn't in it. "I wouldn't know, I just came" his retort without looking my way. I just asked, it's old story with me, the game house and the shadow group that love my dark face so much. We have history d...

Head Leader

If you are the kind with ear on the ground and eyes wide open, you won’t miss much, and overtime, you will start decoding them from their many shortcomings. One fact I have not failed to grasp from these kinds of humans is that they have wrong idea of themselves, environment and their neighbor. They term to use their own barometer, their own scale in weighing everyone and everything. That is first indicator, first shrieking sign that they are on the wrong lane. Another thing I did not miss from creatures of this nature is that even as adult...

mobile Court

I am a land animal. The kind that don’t trust talk on another human animal being able to do much if anything for me security-wise when nature or unhinged humans take it in their loony heads to wreak havoc on me. I don’t even trust anything that takes my foot off the ground and hang them on air shuttling me from one point to another. All these to tell you that planes aren’t my preferred mode of transportation just like other modes. My leg doing the work I have unshakable faith in it doing the work better and safer than any other mode. So, lik...

The Letter

The story you are about to hear is what some in a Mass Com department and all those other journalism related courses will refer to as stale, moldy news. Story no one will halt or pay anymore to hear, the same story was what settled deadlock situation in an election tribunal four years ago here. That time, some elders jazzed it up and it was something else. 2023. the state of the nation's economy, odor of it was in a precarious moldy state, smelling too bad. Nothing was shedding the old in preparation to assume the new. Things including the ...

Rod Lady

The buzzing of the flies were what first alerted her before the putrid odor hit her hard. The weather in dry season in Otole is always something else. The sun blazes as if it's a stone throw from where you are standing. It must have been what aided the fast decay. The officers were putting the time of the death to be around two days and few hours. The family later said he was last seen five days before. The young man's head was gruesomely bashed in with something the police said might be a local ax or digger. According to the woman that saw...

Suitable

Some refer to that state here as seeing blues, some call it seeing double. But IK can swear that for two months now, he had been seeing nothing but red and quatro. What frightens him the most isn't the rejection that might be his portion but the competition. Many are from far-off communities and there is no kidding himself after spying on them that some aren't up there higher than him in class, yet the iota of hope he still cling to is surprisingly coming from Ebele that has this way of making you hang on there not knowing which divide your ...

Stampede

Maybe, it might be the fifth or sixth year I am reading and hearing about this same incident repeating itself. I am never the kind to scream blue murder when free things don't halt on their march in front of me even if that is its MO in front of others. I mean, there is this kind of "you're full of yourself" spirit controlling events in me. You recall that kind of spirit, right? The one that doesn't kowtow easily to material things, I have that in me. Observing incidents of this nature, it comes a time you start reminiscing on the cause. Ev...

Finch

I have always hear that when it's tough, the tough get going. That the tough people get to the top in tough times. Yet, my one skepticism had always been: "How come all the people in Africa isn't tough and why all don't get going all the time?"- it's never been easy over here for once since Adam. My mind, often whirling, found it at times difficult to wrap fully around that logic. Some say that might be reason I am poor. They claimed it's thing of the mind. That last part I doubt not for I have lived it and still doing. Every battle are los...

Affect

She was one of the four that got married four months into their lives in the women endowment center. Training being given to them by the women hired from the city as Mr. Johnson directed them. She added another half spoon of milk and stirred. "I hope it's perfect to how he likes it" she thought to herself. The woman's name is Nneka Iju, one of those Mr Johnson shuffled just two weeks earlier to the kitchen department as they refer to the room catering for refreshment and feeding. Shuffling trolleys upstairs and downstairs from the third flo...

Women Endowment

Some people think that hectoring is a kind of terrorism which merited attention given to any other kind of terrorism: they talk, they threaten, they frown, twist their faces this way and that, without for once eyeing in the direction of the man they have in heart. Yet, the message is gotten clearly. "You believe hectoring isn't part and parcel of this tribe's culture?" One LGA staff member who suddenly discovers ways of passing his monotonous time in the company of Mr.Johnson asked. Mr. Johnson eyed him, trying to establish well where the m...

No Way

That given back to society is what he came back for. The mindset of the western nation he finished his education is rooted in. He couldn't understand why his society fights for what will make life easier for many. Some of them sneak into his house for hot drinks and watch state and national news he allows believing they will start having this longing for their wards to be like him but not the elders of Umueke community. Mr Johnson had wanted to start from his village to create awareness of what is possible as achievement by the youths that ...

Acute Sign

The man seems not to know the name of the compound he found himself. He had been jumbling surnames together and laughing over his mistakes. The young men around him kept wondering if it's his head or the result of excess drink at work. "This man wasn't this way before till that Mr. Johnson returned back to this village. See how he's wasting souls with his money" one woman said with bitterness you can't miss from miles. One young man sitting two chairs away from her eyed her a few minutes before turning her way. "So how did Mr Johnson contrib...

Blood test

The man couldn't understand why they are fighting change for the better. What he was proposing is for everyone's good but he could see from their utterances that his 'good and everyone' is what the clique don't want to hear. They felt he was disorganizing their source of income, the little relevance they felt their presence is worth before the people. "Humans are not for sale" the man that came back after eighteen years away is telling them. "Why are we blaming the whites and the Arabs for the slavery of centuries gone when the same thing i...

Umueke Elders

In the land far, far away, the leaders of Umueke were gathering in the king's palace for what must have been the one millionth time on the issue many elders found encroaching on the ways of their ancestors as some put it. The young man from abroad that's talking about destabilizing their community. They consider it an abomination of highest order happening in their own time if allowed by the young man that many have confirmed don't know anything about grass goats eat. Excess Cold

It was so terribly cold. Snow was falling and it's almost dark when they swooped on them like hawks on the helpless wayward chickens that December month in 2015. They had been monitoring them for three months and decided that a snowy day to raid their quarry would be their best chance to success. Samkate, the new nation that their leaders believed assuming bad-boys identity will do a far better job of creating breathing space than kowtowing to any other. Their spy master is a hawkish fellow some refer to as mighty with almighty brain. "All ...
