Contributor bio
Leila Boukarim has published a number of children’s books in the US, Canada, and Singapore, Canada. Her books cover topics ranging from the Armenian Genocide and the plight of generational Palestinian refugees in Lebanon to the third culture kid experience, making friends by building them, and creepy swans at the park. She has worked with editors at Macmillan, Simon and Schuster, Chronicle Books, Andrews McMeel, and more. As a freelance editor, she has collaborated with over 300 children’s authors, and is passionate about working with new voices who have been historically marginalized.
Leila’s stories are often influenced by her West Asian upbringing, her observations as a citizen of the world, and the playfulness that arises from raising two young boys. More than anything, Leila believes in the power of picture books in shaping people and societies, in nurturing empathy and understanding, and in changing the world for the better.
