Wilhelmina Asaam

Wilhelmina Asaam – Editor

Former S&S UK fiction editor with experience across genres including literary, sci-fi, romance, crime/thriller.

Overview

I'd love to work on your fiction, whether it's contemporary, literary or speculative. I love books that are emotional & reflective and especially those set in different countries and cultures.

As a recently agented writer myself, I understand how complicated it can be and how difficult it can be sometimes to invite collaboration. But the best writing has the perfect amount of conversation between the author and the reader, and I'm here to help you achieve that.

Writing has made me a more sensitive editor, I'm creative, open-minded, patient but firm. I want the best for you, as much as you do for yourself. I tailor my service to each writer's particular quirks, as I'd like to be done for myself. So that your writing says exactly what *you* want to say, without ambiguity.

I offer:

1)Structural/Developmental editing

With this service I can work with you on your novel to strengthen and develop structure, plot, and characterization, looking at your novel holistically.

2)Copyediting/Line Editing

Working through your manuscript line by line to eliminate errors, improve flow, and give it an overall polish with commentary throughout.

3) Proofreading

Reviewing your text for publication, ensuring errors in layout, punctuation, and other inconsistencies are caught and corrected before final publication: a fresh pair of eyes to ensure you have a more polished version of your work.

4)Query Package Critique

Having recently had a successful round of queries with multiple offers of representation, coupled with my editorial experience, I can help you edit all the components of your query package, to improve the pitching, positioning, and clarity to fit them to the current publishing landscape to support you in your journey to signing with an agent.

Finally, I know the jargon can be confusing - just shoot me a message and we can determine together which service would best serve you at your stage in the process!

TESTIMONIALS

'Sometimes edits can be daunting, but Mina offers feedback in a way that lifts you up while at the same time helps to improve your novel and make it the best version of itself it can be. As a debut author and a WOC, this industry can be a difficult one to navigate at times, but I felt completely safe in Mina's capable hands. She's smart, hard-working, and knows exactly what she's doing. Anyone would be lucky to work with her! '

Alina Khawaja, author of Maya's Laws of Love

'Mina has a beautiful heart and it shows in her work. To me, that is what a writer needs. An editor with a beautiful heart who also happens to be really skillful and thorough!'

Damilare Kuku, author of Nearly All The Men in Lagos Are Mad

’Working with Mina on my second novel was a pleasure, and I couldn't have asked for a more dedicated and talented editor for my second novel. Mina demonstrated exceptional editorial and unwavering commitment to bringing out the best in my work.’
