High Expectations (A short poem)

Hey all, hope your day has been going well. This is a really short poem I wrote. It doesn’t apply to the prompt, and it’s under the word limit, but I kind of felt like posting it so I did. I have a feeling it’s pretty bad, so if you choose to continue, proceed with caution. Also, feel free to tell me what you think.

I have high expectations for myself,

For what I’m meant to do.

Then I see how small I am,

And wonder if it was ever possible at all.

When I hear of all the sorrows of our world, 

I dream of changing it for the better.

When I see all those who have suffered,

I want to save them all.

When I hear of all those who have succeeded,

I dream of being the next.

When I see the light they have given us,

I want to thank them for helping us all.

When I listen to music at full volume,

I dream of dancing through the clouds.

When I stare at the world outside my window,

I want to see it all.

When I forget about all that holds me back,

I dream of living the life I always imagined.

When I tell myself this isn’t false hope,

I want to allow for it all.

When I look up at the wide-open sky, 

I dream of breaking free.

When I feel the wind in my hair,

I want to rise above it all.

When I stare up at the starry night,

I dream of the galaxies above us.

When I hear of all this world has to offer,

I want to experience it all.
