Mamie Sanders – Marketer

Customer-focused and strategy-driven digital marketer with 10 years of experience at Abrams Books and Simon and Schuster.

Overview

Thanks for taking a look at my profile! I welcome the chance to work with you and would be excited to bring something fresh and innovative to the promotion of your book. I'll start with some background on my experience in the publishing industry, but be sure to keep reading for a list of services I'd be able to provide to support your marketing needs!

I started my career as a marketing assistant at Gallery Books, where I got my

first exposure into utilizing social media as a profession. I gained experience

in content creation and website maintenance for our in-house romance platform XOXO After Dark and designed and implemented book-specific websites.

I fully came into my own as a digital marketer and social media specialist during my tenure at ABRAMS. My role did not exist before my arrival at the company, and I built their digital marketing department and strategy from the ground up. I not only grew their social media following exponentially through strategic posting, implementation of creative content, and paid media, but I also fostered a community among their followers. My role also included running digital ad campaigns for a variety of our titles, which not only included self-service options like Amazon and Facebook advertising, but also partnerships with media companies and third-party vendors for placements on well-known websites and newsletters.

That being said, a portion of my role that I was extremely passionate about was my work with our roster of 60+ authors a year. I facilitated them in strengthening their own brand footprint, the messaging for their book, and their online personality, as well as collaborated with them to develop a well rounded and strategic digital marketing campaign to promote their book to their target audience.

But enough about me! Here is a sample list of services I can provide you if you choose to work with me. Keep in mind--this list isn't exhaustive. Have an idea but don't see it here? Reach out and I'll let you know if I can help!

· Create a strategic marketing campaign and timeline, starting with the announcement of your book and running through the publication date (and beyond!)

· Coach you on how to execute self-service ads on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Amazon (as well guidance on how to run a larger display-based campaign, if you are interested)

· Advise on best practices and tips for your social media platform

· Develop and assist in a strategic social media roll-out for the book

· Brainstorm and develop an influencer campaign

· Educate on the tools available to authors on Amazon, Goodreads, and other book-centric platforms, including how to showcase extra content about you and your book and run giveaways to get the book into the hands of more readers

Think we’ll be a good fit? Great! I can’t wait to hear from you.

Projects

"Beautiful" Series

As an assistant at Gallery Books, I worked to support the team that launched the bestselling romance series by Christina Lauren. My efforts included planning and running Goodreads giveaways, creating content for the books for our in-house romance blog XOXO After Dark, including the series in mailings to influencer group The XOXperts, and marketing the books through our company and third party newsletters.

Don't Text Your Ex Happy Birthday Marketing Campaign

We teamed up with the author to create an integrated marketing campaign, which included an incentivized pre-order campaign, an extensive roll-out timeline on the author's social media channels, an influencer mailing to all of his well-known friends, and advertising on Facebook and Amazon. The Facebook advertising got over 46K impressions, 2,500 link clicks, 479 likes, and 54 shares. The Amazon sponsored product advertising got over 800K impressions and 3,300 clicks, and sold over 500 copies of the book. This book was a USA Today bestseller!

Surely Books Ad Campaign for Launch

Ran an extensive display ad campaign for the launch of LGBTQIA imprint Surely Books, timed with Pride Month. It targeted comic book, graphic novel, and manga readers, as well as LGBTQ+ advocates. Traits and behaviors included sci-fi and fantasy readers, YA readers, Comic-Con fans, and those with a strong interest in nerd culture. The campaign also utilized our geo-targeting to reach these readers out in the real world. Ads were served to qualified readers who were actively shopping in, or who had recently visited, comic book stores or Barnes & Noble retailers.

The native and banner ads finished at a .20% CTR, while the geo-targeted portion finished at a .22% CTR! The ads ran on top sites including NY Times, Comicbook, Bleeding Cool, Books and Bao, Den of Geek, Advocate, LGBTQ Reads, Advocate, Pink News, Nerdist, Comic Book Movie, and more!

Comedy Bang Bang: The Podcast: The Book

Worked closely with author, podcaster, and comedian Scott Aukerman and his team to run a strategic marketing campaign for Comedy Bang Bang: The Podcast: The Book. It involved a social media timeline for posting, social media collaborations with retailers, advertisements on his podcast network, Amazon advertising, and mailings to contributors and key influencers. The book landed at #4 on the Advice, How-To, and Misc. NYT bestseller list!

ABRAMS Dinner Party

I created and ran an in-house influencer program for all of our food and drink titles for the last 6 years, in which over 50 micro-influencers (1K-10K followers each) shared on their channels for each title. I recruited a new group of influencers each year.

Mamie was a pleasure to work with. She was responsive and timely and offered multiple options for creative advertising. She helped put together lists of keywords, giveaway tactics, focus areas, and advertising plans. There were some random speedbumps here and there with the launch of the book and dealing with publisher woes, but Mamie was always flexible and patient and came up with side strate...

I have enjoyed working with Mame. She is very professional and understands what she is doing. I think our collaboration will produce good results. (By the way, this review is exclusively for Mame on Reedsy. Reedsy Discovery is a disaster of epic proportions. I gladly endorse my work with Mame and people I have met on Reedsy in the past. I will have nothing to do with Reedsy Discovery)
