Overview
Hi! I’m Kelsey, a kind-hearted copy editor specializing in memoir and other narrative nonfiction. For more than 20 years, I’ve worked both in-house and freelance.
I’ve edited for HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, Macmillan, and Simon & Schuster (four of the Big Five publishers), as well as Dotdash Meredith, America’s largest digital and print publisher.
I understand that putting yourself and your story out there can feel intimidating or overwhelming, and I’m here to help.
My editing is a thoughtful combination of a deep dive and a light touch.
You’ve poured yourself into your book, and I want to honor that by pouring my expertise into it, too. I never do things by halves, and you and your book get the benefit of that level of care. But I also go to great lengths to preserve your voice, your message, and all the elements that make your book uniquely yours.
I respect you and your work, and my goal is simple: to make your book better and make you look better along the way. ✨️
My clients include first-time authors, indie writers, and public figures like Chip and Joanna Gaines, Willie Nelson, Meghan Trainor, Reba McEntire, Mark Harmon, Tim Kaine, and Michael Crichton.
I bring the same high level of editorial care and professionalism to every project.
I especially love memoirs. If you’ve written a memoir and want it edited with attention to both the line-level details and the bigger picture—by someone who’s experienced and approachable—I’m your editor!
I also really enjoy narrative nonfiction centered around:
• personal growth
• self-help and self-improvement
• health and well-being, including mental health
• inspirational stories
• religious harm, spiritual trauma, deconstruction, and exvangelical experiences
• strong female leads
• creative nonfiction
My signature service is an above-and-beyond copy edit I call The Fine-Toothed Comb. It’s an exceptionally thorough, high-value edit that brings together elements of both line editing and copy editing (and even some developmental editing insights) into a single pass.
Not to ruin the surprise, but the writers I work with often tell me they’re astounded by both the depth of the edit and how much they learn. I don’t offer surface-level editing. Your book deserves careful attention, thoughtful feedback, and genuine investment.
As a firstborn, eldest daughter, Virgo, and INTJ, I’m more or less hardwired for editing as a detail-obsessed, analytical type A. I’m probably organizing something right now by category, color, or season.
I know, I know—I sound like I’d be fun at parties! 😅 But let’s be honest: My deep experience and hardwiring as an editor are wins for you because I can come alongside you and your book as an expert friend.
Most importantly, I want the editing process to feel clear, helpful, and encouraging. 💛 Writing requires vulnerability, and it's a privilege to help authors shape their stories into books that are polished, compelling, and deeply readable—books they feel proud to share.
Let’s get your story out there!
