Overview
Kathleen is a literary agent, freelance fiction editor, host and producer of a writing advice podcast, audio editor for another hugely popular writing advice podcast, and co-founder/organizer/host of an online pitching platform for writers and industry professionals. She's also proofread books for an indie publisher in Toronto, and is the previous Primary Co-chair of Editors Canada Hamilton-Halton and previous International Rep for Crime Writers of Canada. Kat is heavily engaged in the online writing community.
Kathleen typically reads and edits adult (and some YA) novels in the following genres: domestic or psychological thrillers, domestic suspense, gothic fiction/horror, historical and historical fantasy, speculative, supernatural/paranormal, and some rom-coms. Kat particularly loves twisty, jaw-dropping thrillers, haunted houses, ghosts, ancestry, time travel, witches, and anything to do with soulmates/soul connections, reincarnation, and past lives. She maintains a 5-star average rating in her services as she always provides exceptional work with a friendly, open, and professional communication style. She loves immersing herself in stories, and loves helping writers learn how to tell their stories and get them out into the world!
Kat is does not take on projects with the following topics: heavy politics, war, or religion; erotica; heavy, intentional violence toward women and/or children; poetry; heavy sci-fi/high-tech; epic fantasies; space operas; werewolves; biographies/autobiographies; DIY; academic works; self-help; health & fitness; sports.
For critiques of queries and synopses, Kat's rates reflect a typical one-page (under 500 words) query letter and a maximum of 1000 words for a synopsis. She is happy to critique higher-than-typical word counts to help you pare them down for an additional fee.

The Rights Factory
Kathleen was an editorial assistant at The Rights Factory, a literary agency based in Toronto, ON. She worked with clients on edits, read for other agents to provide feedback for their clients, and helped prepare submissions lists.

Beginning as an editorial assistant and mentoring under Sam Hiyate (owner), Kat is now an assistant (new) literary agent hungry to build her list of talented clients! Note: she does not rep manuscripts she's been paid to edit due to a conflict of interest.
Self-employed
For full manuscripts, Kathleen provides structural, stylistic, and copy edits and proofreading services for private clients. She also provides query package critiques, manuscript assessments, brainstorming sessions, pitch critiques, and webinars and/or pre-recorded courses focused on self-editing, craft, etc. She has proofread books for Rising Action Publishing Co. in addition to her private clients.
