Kayla Ramoutar – Editor

English Lit graduate with a post-grad degree in Publishing. There's no greater adrenaline rush than copyediting.

Overview

I have a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in English Literature, and a post-graduate degree in Publishing. My experience is comprehensive, learning on the job when I interned at Cormorant Books Inc in Toronto, Ontario. There I was fortunate enough to be able to proofread a young adult novel that went on to win the Governor General's Award for children's literature in 2017, as well as the Kirkus Prize in the young adult literature category the same year.

I have copy edited and proofread middle grade novels, young adult novels, adult fiction, and non-fiction. Two fantasy books I've edited (YA Fantasy and Adult Fantasy) have won Firebird awards.

Services offered are Copy Editing, Proofreading, and Editorial Assessment. Line edits and overall narrative edits and comments are my forte. Working with Kayla was such a joy! She was so helpful in terms of everything from helping me understand what my manuscript needed on a big-picture level down to the nitty gritty of identifying all my bad writing habits. Her blend of tough love and boundless encouragement is the best there is!

I would recommend Kayla to anyone looking to publish - her knowledge, precision, professionalism and kindness are all clear from the moment she first messages you to the moment that s...

I was very pleased to have been recommended Kayla's services. This is my first time writing a novel, and having her professional and savvy expertise was such a help to get a better look at the project overall and the ways to improve the writing throughout. I felt like we had a good understanding of each other and that I could trust her opinion on story elements that I wasn't super confident abo...
