Overview

I have a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in English Literature, and a post-graduate degree in Publishing. My experience is comprehensive, learning on the job when I interned at Cormorant Books Inc in Toronto, Ontario. There I was fortunate enough to be able to proofread a young adult novel that went on to win the Governor General's Award for children's literature in 2017, as well as the Kirkus Prize in the young adult literature category the same year.

I have copy edited and proofread middle grade novels, young adult novels, adult fiction, and non-fiction. Services offered are Copy Editing, Proofreading, and Editorial Assessment. Line edits and overall narrative edits and comments are my forte.

Kayla made time on short notice to review my book. She gave very helpful comments, for positive aspects and for areas that need further consideration. I would not hesitate to recommend her to other beginning authors!

She organized her critique into sections - plot, character, structure, etc. - which made it easier to focus on overall elements for improvement. She provided general feedback with specific examples to clearly illustrate her points. Having Kayla assess my novel was definitely w...

Joshua Valentine
Kayla was an extremely professional and communicative copy editor for my dystopian science fiction novel, and provide a useful array of suggestions and edits for my novel, both in-text and out. She also went above and beyond with making sure I was able to make the most of her services provided, and even finished ahead of the scheduled finish-date. Definitely recommend her to any publishing author!

Matt Twinley
It was wonderful working with Kayla! Professional, thorough and brought a really good personality to the edits too - perfecting the manuscript didn't seem like the slog I feared it would be. She was utterly instrumental in making my book the polished gem I hoped for. Definitely recommended!
