Can I communicate with my author/professional outside of Reedsy?

No, to protect both parties and ensure your collaboration is covered by our Project Protection Policy, all communication (written and verbal) must take place exclusively on Reedsy.

Our Project Protection Policy only covers projects managed entirely through Reedsy. If any communication happened off-platform, we’d no longer be able to mediate disputes or offer protection to either party.

As a result, any sharing of contact details (email addresses, phone numbers, personal websites, external call links, etc.) is strictly prohibited.

That said, there are a few exceptions depending on the type of service you're working on; see the questions below for details.

I'm working on an editing, design, ghostwriting, or translation project. Are there any exceptions?

Yes, a few narrow ones:

  1. Book content & social assets. As an author, if your contact details and website need to appear in the book itself or in social media assets, you may share them. However, this is only permitted once a collaboration has been accepted and started.
  2. Physical copies. Professionals may share a mailing address if they need to receive a physical copy of the finished book.
  3. Crediting your work. Designers, translators, ghostwriters, and editors may share their full name for crediting purposes. Websites, business names, social media handles, and other external links are not permitted.

In all cases, no sharing of contact information is allowed at the negotiation stage (before an offer is accepted).

I'm working on a marketing, publicity, or website design project. What's allowed?

The same general rule applies; all communication must stay on Reedsy. The one exception is when you need to share an email address or website strictly to create or work on the author's deliverables (for example, to set up or hand over an author's website). This is only permitted at the collaboration stage.

In any and all cases, no sharing of contact information is allowed at the negotiation stage (before an offer is accepted).

I'm a ghostwriter. Can I communicate off-platform?

For ghostwriting collaborations under $20,000, off-platform communication of any kind is not permitted.

For projects $20,000 and above, parties may be allowed to communicate outside Reedsy once the ghostwriter’s offer has been accepted and payment details are entered (the collaboration stage). In such cases, both parties automatically forfeit Reedsy’s Project Protection policy as soon as external contact details are shared. This means that if a dispute or issue arises relating to such arrangements outside of Reedsy, we won’t be able to investigate, mediate, or offer support.

In any and all cases, no sharing of contact information is allowed at the negotiation stage (before an offer is accepted).

What about future projects with the same professional or author?

Any follow-up work or additional collaborations, regardless of service type, must go through Reedsy. You can amend your existing offer or easily rehire the professional by heading to your Collaborations page and clicking "Rehire."
