Weekly Contest #296
Sir Leofwine Westbrook sat down at the table with his superior, to the ever so delicious meal of pottage. He wasn’t too hungry, nerves wrecked his stomach and he felt nauseous. It was a big day, some might argue that this was the biggest day of his life. Last time he was so nervous was the day of his official knighting, the day he became one of the King’s main soldiers, swore protect Him and the Kingdom with his life. But from this day he was to become even more. He would be taking the position of his boss and will become The Lord Commander ...
Weekly Contest #294
19th March 2025 Dear Younger Me, I am currently sitting down at the wooden desk, on a very uncomfortable dining chair, hoping to take some things off my mind. There is a lot I need to tell you and I wish I could go back in time to give this letter to you. Right now you are about 15 years old, going through hormones, emotions, changes and frustrations. Your home isn’t your safe space, school gives you anxiety, your friends don’t seem like friends anymore. It is hard. Really hard. You are probably looking at yourself in the mirror, hating ever...
Weekly Contest #293
As I sit on the uncomfortable train seat, blankly staring out of the window, I feel the heat wash over me in an instant. Breath one. Breath two. Breath three. It’s okay, I can do this. Trying to stay calm and relaxed, I look away from the window, starting to feel dizzy from the speed we pass the trees with. You’ve done this before, I say to myself as a pep talk. Just because it’s different setting, doesn’t mean you can’t do it. There is only one problem - if it goes south, I won’t be able to escape for another 3 hours of that train ride. I h...
Weekly Contest #267
[Indirect mentions of SA, DA and drink spiking] HER I am no saint, but no one really is. Some people are less evil, some people are more evil. I have done things I am not proud of, and will have to live with the consequences once they come. I do, however, refuse to feel guilt for what I have done. There are reasons behind my actions, and no one will convince me they are not for “the greater good”. I am writing here in my diary, to be able to get it off my chest, as I cannot speak to anyone about it. I wish I could scream it from the top of ...
Weekly Contest #257
The bell rang and all students lethargically directed themselves towards their respective classrooms. School sucks, sure, but high school is the worst of them all. At least that’s how Julian felt, when he sat at his desk and took out his notebook and pen. Every day he spent between those walls was dragging awfully and he was longing for the last ring of the bell, so he can run down to the basement, to his after school chess club meetings. He loved playing chess with his mates, beat them one by one, using newly learned techniques that he stud...
Weekly Contest #255
The plans I had today were important to me, but I knew I couldn’t go until I cleaned up a little in the flat first. I started with the bathroom - the shower had sick in it from last night, so I rinsed it with water first and then sprayed with bathroom cleaner. It was lucky I still had a face mask in one of the drawers that I could put on, as the smell was awful in there. I quickly wiped the toilet and squeezed the last bits of bleach inside. Then moved onto the sink, wiped the limescale as much as I could, and rinsed the cloth. As I walked o...
