Anna Bowles

Anna Bowles - Editor

London, United Kingdom

I have 10+ years' experience working on children's and YA writing at UK publishers including Hachette and HarperCollins.

Overview

Reviews (31)

During my decade of experience as an in-house editor, I worked on top children's commercial fiction series such as Rainbow Magic and Beast Quest, becoming a commissioning editor at Hachette before going freelance in early 2015. Since then, as well as taking on individual clients, I have continued to copy-edit for Hachette and HarperCollins, working on high-profile authors such as David Walliams, Babette Cole and Holly Smale. I've also been involved in the fiction publishing side of dozens of brands, from Winnie-the-Pooh to Wallace and Gromit, meaning that I can offer clients the benefit of my extensive experience in developing and working with characters.

I'm a published writer as well as an editor, having written for the Secret Kingdom series, and my agent Jenny Savill of Andrew Nurnberg is currently subbing my first YA novel to publishers. So I know just how hard it is on your side of the desk!

On the non-fiction side, I spent for four years as a commissioning editor at Carlton Books and Octopus, creating quality children's reference material on subjects from space to ponies.

Thank you so much Anna for your manuscript report. You helped me address the issues that I knew I had to, but wasn't sure what direction I needed to go in. I now feel happier about moving forward in my project. Kind regards, Fiona

Anna's editorial assessment of my YA novel was absolutely amazing. She is so thorough and detailed. She reads so carefully--though she was also very fast!--and her report is itself a work of art. She's knowledgable not only about structure and character, but about the category itself. Her insights (and suggested resources) will no doubt improve my writing from here on out, no matter what projec...
