Vampire Fantasy Name Generator

More Fantasy Name Generators

Welcome to Reedsy’s vampire name generator

A vampire name generator is a tool that helps writers create names for vampire characters. Think names that carry the age, predatory elegance, or contemporary unease that vampires bring to a story, depending on which kind you're writing.

Vampire fiction, meanwhile, has already produced some of the most indelible character names in genre literature: Dracula, Lestat, Carmilla, Louis, Edward. If you’re looking to join their lineage, look no further. Our vampire name generator takes your character's role, the phonetic feel you want, and your world's specific vampire mythology, and returns ten names for you.

How to use this name generator

Think about what era your vampire comes from, and what era they now inhabit. Phonetic feel is also where you can define your vampire's register: aristocratic and formal, sensual and sliding, cold and precise, or something that sounds almost human but not quite. You can then use the box of additional details for your mythology's specifics.

So you want a good vampire name?

Vampires carry more accumulated cultural weight than almost any other fantasy archetype. The name is the first choice you make about where your vampire sits in that tradition.

A few things worth knowing as you write:

  • Your vampire's name should reflect when they were named. A vampire who has lived for seven centuries was given their name in a world without electricity, nation-states, or mass media.
  • The gap between the name and the present matters. A vampire named something ancient and formal walking through a contemporary setting creates a productive friction. A vampire named something contemporary might be newly turned, or might have reinvented themselves. Either is interesting, but the choice should be deliberate.
  • Vampire names often encode origin. Getting the origin of a vampire’s name right, and making it consistent with what you know about your character's history, is part of making them feel real.
  • Consider what name they use publicly. Many vampire characters maintain an alias or simplified name for contemporary use alongside their true, older name. That double identity is itself a rich source of characterization, and both names are worth thinking carefully about.

A note on our use of AI

We built this tool for writers, which means we thought carefully about what AI should and shouldn't do here. The generator uses AI to produce names that better fit your character's specific context and needs — archetype, personality, genre, world — while explaining its reasoning for each one.

Here’s what it won’t do for you: it won’t write your story, name your character, or make creative decisions for you. It simply generates options for you.

More importantly, your inputs are not (and will never be) used to train any AI models. Treat whatever comes out as raw material: a starting point that belongs entirely to you. Every result is yours!
