The routine of power and familiarity

Christian Inspirational Kids

Written in response to: "Write a story that includes the words “déjà vu” or “that didn’t happen.”" as part of Stranger than Fiction with Zack McDonald.

WHAT just happened?

“I’ve been here before.”

We think and maybe even assume this idea, thought, remembrance is both good and bad.

Well.

It can be,

Both good and bad.

No one ever said life is easy.

”Life is difficult.” (ps)

Depending upon how you attack the day, approach a situation, solve a problem in the answer you give to the meaning of the circumstance, situation, occurrence.

Best of all with a little and possibly invisible help along the way.🙂While, yes, life is made to be lived, humans tend to complicate the simplest of the minutes of the day with expectations.

Expectations the moments will either be dreadfully the same or miraculously changed.

The change is within the palms of our hands. Maybe the brain and the eyes do see the same.

I really don’t know because the synapses can bob and weave and curve and bend in ways we never could have imagined. Or thought possible.

See what I mean?

Both good and bad.

The journey is the path we either refuse to step up on. Refuse to step back on. Worse off, ignore all together. The help comes not packaged in a box, but in a long awaited invisible message:

Perhaps one like:”Ask and you shall receive.” Not exactly in the way—the unbelievable fast paced Amazonian world of tap and the doorbell rings with our next expectation. Arriving.

But the long awaited thinking that He has been here all along, we just never asked for the help we needed or the help we didn’t realize we needed.

The long game isn’t quite the marathon we expected nor is it the walk in the park we hoped for. Let’s just admit it, it was there, all along on the path. Where, we beg? Along the path were the beautiful flowers, the unexpected bumps in the road, the tiny little weeds that shimmied in the wind. The tiniest—they were trying desperately to grab our attention, but we were so focused on our task at hand we didn’t see them.

Until we did.

The transformation was offered to us in a mundane and regular way and was not so dramatic as a transformation. But, while we’re were distracted by checking our steps, we missed that a choice was offered. The choice to not remember things as they were, but to tweak them in the interest of what can be. An invitation to adapt, adjust the noodle (our way of thinking) into a new and better version of what is right and kind and beautiful.

I get it.

Way easier said than done. Our mental rigidity and rigid tendencies render it impossible at times.

But. Not all the time. He is the great orchestra leader.

Help is, was on the way before we knew we needed it. The most difficult task was finding it, the right help at the right time in the right way. Suddenly. The path opened up, the ground felt softer, our moods felt light and the familiar air wasn’t so familiar anymore. Yes. WE panicked at times, because the old normal was twisting and turning into a new, albeit lighter normal. Gosh darn it. We were unprepared and flailed our hands in complex and clumsy ways because what we didn’t realize in the moment. Was there was help. Let’s just call the practice steadfast.

A steady and and a steady heart go hand in hand.🙂

The coming days, many of them, sometimes, years, saw us trip and fall. Walk into walls and doubt while the very mirror that stared back at the image of ourself at times albeit thought we recognized it, was as expressively confused as us

Something had changed, yet we were not sure what exactly. Little by little the new and coming days were a mix of the familiar with a spicy dash of the new.

We were forced to decide we could either live life as is, or change. What to change? Anything? Everything? Who knew.?

Our fate and our future and further all rolled into one. We rowed against the tide and the waves because being frightened all the time is a lousy way to live. We attempted time and again to pull up the ‘ole boot straps to find ourselves planted in the same puddle of muddied doubt. Over time, the only option was clearer and clearer, more self-evident.

Trust.

Trust in the process. It may not be what we want, most certainly it is what we need. The most. Fear comes back whenever it wants. Over time trust gently bolts in whenever we need. I don’t know about the average ‘ Joe’, but I will take those odds on the weedy path forward to an existence lived with a peace that passes understanding. A peace that a human must be willing to step back of and in the essence of another in order to move on to. It is or can be as complicated as we, the human, make it.

No worries.

Hakuna Mattata.

He gets it and forges before us so our steps can feel lighter while we figure out the next minute, hour, days and years. Thankfully his patience works.Works it ways into our heads, and more importantly our hearts to be there for one another.

We fall back into old thinking patterns and ‘doing’ moments and all that we used to know. He gently guides us to change not for the simple sake of change. He asks us for help to, ya know. He learns by our mistakes and then asks us to be better. How can anyone deny another person that opportunity to grow? He doesn’t. but he does expect us to pay attention.

We rely on the familiar routine, not because it has always been the safest or best thing for us, because its rigidity gave us the excuses we needed to keep what we believed we wanted and needed to hold near and dear. Had we just given it a little slack, things may not have been so hurricane-like or volcanic. It’s ok. He and Mother Nature control tell the weather, too🙂. The talking head weather people are not match.

At the end of a long and wondering and sometimes wandering day, road, path….opportunities presented may offer the invitation to change our way of thinking, open our heart a little more and/or just plain breath for a change. Instead of dwelling on the negative, try thinking… don’t be angry it happened, be glad it happened and the lesson was wrapped as such.

A life lesson.

It didn’t arrive to us a neatly crisp-edged package, but in a messy, messy way that we had to take a quiet moment and wonder. And honestly admit.

Life is difficult. (PS).

He walks along side us to help us even when we learn life’s real ropes the hard way.🫤
