Hi, I'm Sydney. Mama loved me at first sight and adopted me. I went from living on the streets and eating bugs to being inside all the time and eating Friskies and sometimes shrimp for a special treat. So yeah, follow me for more life tips.
See, I had a boyfriend for a while. He got me pregnant. A nice lady picked me up and took me into a vet's office. They kept me in the back room next to a room full of barking dogs. Did I ever want to shut those dogs up! One of my kittens looked just like me. I'm a brown tabby with gold eyes. She also didn't have a tail, just like me. I was a good mother to my kittens. The people at the vet's office found good homes for all of them.
Mama had London already. He didn't like me when she first took me in. He growled and hissed at me and Mama kept us apart. She was in a bigger house then, so it was easier. I could sniff at him through the door, and try to put my little paw under the door to touch him. It took him a couple of months to decide I wasn't so bad after all.
London's point of view:
Hello, I'm a blue-gray British longhair cat named London. I originally was in a hoarder situation as a kitten, with another cat who may have been my biological brother, I'm not sure. Rio and I bonded as kittens and were kept together when we were rescued from that home. The next home we had was with a couple with two young children. The little girl put me in a little red wagon and pulled me through the house, but I stayed calm even though she was squealing with delight, which hurt my ears. I felt far too dignified for such shenanigans, but it made her happy, so that's all that mattered. They were nice enough people, even though I think they could have given us more treats, but they had to downsize into a smaller place when their home went into foreclosure.
Mommy was a friend of theirs through social media, and was the only one who offered to take Rio and me. We were naturally nervous when we were taken there, and at first spent a lot of time hiding under Mommy's bed. She had been so excited to get us that she didn't even realize that we might hide from her. We came out at night when Mommy was asleep, to eat and drink, use the litter box, and cautiously explore.
After about ten days, I felt more at ease. I decided Mommy was going to be good to us, and we could trust her. I jumped up on the bed and made biscuits on Mommy. She was so happy!
Sydney again:
Oh, listen to that big fluffy boy! Talking about being so chill. Huh. I've seen him rolling around with a catnip mouse lots of times. Since I don't have a tail, I think he thought I was just a big overgrown mouse when he met me. We're still not as friendly as Mama would like, but it's better. The other day I was on the bed and London was under the covers. When Mama came home from wherever she goes during the day, she found his booty right up against mine. But it doesn't count as touching if it's under the covers, I guess. Mama sometimes gives London a time out in the bathroom when we've been squabbling, but I sit at the bathroom door, waiting for him to come out. I miss him even if we've been smacking at each other.
Life would be boring when Mama's not here, without London. I can't see all that well, so I don't look out the window like he does. Anyway, I used to live out there in all kinds of weather, so why would I want to look outside?
I'm popular and friendly. When Mama takes me back to the vet's office, they hold me and take photos of me. One lady working there kissed me several times while they were checking me over. I'm internet famous, too. Mama gets on the computer on Wednesday evenings for a Zoom meditation meeting. Of course I need to be on Mama's lap while that is happening, and sometimes she holds me up so they can see me and say how cute I am. The Zoom meeting leader says that there can be both two and four legged participants. One time I walked on the keyboard during the meeting, and all of a sudden, the other participants were showing down the side of the screen instead of at the top.
London:
I could be internet famous if I chose to be. I'm just a private, reserved feline. You think you're special because you changed Mommy's Zoom around. I walked on the keyboard one time to stop Macarena from playing. Not to mention I've also done an internet search all by myself.
Sydney:
You and your internet search! You hit the C, R, A and P keys. You did an internet search on crap! I heard Mama say so.
London:
Mommy says I'm a clever kitty. When we were living at the other house, I used a pencil in my paw to get a toy out from under the couch. I also once stood up on my back legs and opened the door by using my paws on the doorknob. I ended up shutting Rio in the basement.
To be honest, I regret doing that. I should've treated him better.
When Mommy first got us, Rio was more active. He stood on top of the shower stall in the basement and laughed at Mommy when she told him to get down. He would sit by the food plates until Mommy came and bowed to him and said, "You rang?" Mommy said she felt like Lurch on the Addams Family. But as time went by, he got quieter. He just wanted to sit in his box in the closet all day. Then came that awful day when he got downstairs, falling down some of the steps, and hid in a cardboard box in the corner. Mommy had taken him to the vet a few days before, but he'd been crying and sitting on Mommy's lap a lot. Mommy went downstairs and picked him up and took him to the emergency clinic. I never saw him again. Mommy brought home a pretty little metal box a few days later.
Sydney:
Aw, I'm sorry you lost your buddy. Makes you think, doesn't it....
London:
Thanks. You're not so bad, now that I think about it. Remember that one place we stayed for a few months while Mommy was looking for an apartment? Her friends had a Siamese cat, Juno, who kept trying to get in our room. Two other cats, Jupiter and Minerva, who would stand out in the hall and sniff at us under the door. We could still be there, in that room, with the plaque on the wall stating I was normal three cats ago.
Sydney:
I let you have my chair the other day. I just went and smelled your tail. I still haven't figured out what the purpose of the tail is. But you looked so comfy curled up there that I didn't have the heart to make you move. I just went and stretched out on Mommy's pillow. She didn't need the big pillow anyway, she had her little pillow.
London:
I appreciate that. It's a good thing we have three chairs now. One for each one of us and then Mommy gets the one that's left.
Sydney:
I remember the time you pressed the top of your head against me.
London:
It was Christmas and I was feeling expansive. Don't expect it all the time.
Sydney:
Mama was so thrilled though. She cried because she was so happy.
London:
Mommy loves both of us. She calls you her little girl, even though you outweigh me by a pound now, and calls me her sweet boy.
Sydney:
Yeah, and don't forget about that extra pound when you start a squabble with me.
London:
Two cats in a small apartment, of course we're going to squabble sometimes. Then Mommy sprays the calming spray, or plays cat calming music with harp playing and water sounds. Or both.
Sydney:
Mama says we've rescued her more than she rescued us. I'm not Rio and I can't replace him, but we need to be buddies. Or at least try to get along and give each other space when needed. You could give me kisses more often, though.
London:
Those were not KISSES! You merely needed some grooming.
Sydney:
Whatever, dude. I'm gonna go sit on Mama's lap. Then you can have your turn on her lap. We'll make sure she doesn't get anything done today.
