Mama seems to be going very fast around the house. She is taking the dishes out of the dishwasher. I am watching her while I eat my cereal. Today I have cocoa Krispies. Mama plopped my bowl on the table so fast the milk sloshed all around and almost came over the sides. Now she has the broom out and is sweeping the floor. She keeps saying something about these darn dogs. We have two very big dogs. They are all black and almost as tall as me. They do have a lot of fur which falls off on to everything. Mama will probably vacuum next.
It's not a school day because Papa is home too. He is in the garage with my brother. My brother is older than me and sometimes a real jerk. He will pull my hair or try to trip me. He will hide my dolls or my favorite bear. If I cry sometimes he gets in trouble. If no one is watching he calls me a big baby and sticks out his tongue at me. My brother has dark curly hair, like me. He is in fourth grade. He can ride his bike with no training wheels. I still need training wheels. I get scared when the bike gets all wobbly. I don't like falling down.
I have a baby sister too. Everybody says she is so cute with her big blue eyes and curly dark hair. I think we all look like we belong together. Even the dogs have dark hair. My baby sister is in her high chair eating her cheerios and feeding some to the dogs. She is really messy. Sometimes she even gets food in her hair. Mama says we all ate messy when we were babies.
Mama says I need to go upstairs and get dressed. She has my clothes on the bed. I am pretty sure I am not going to be happy with what she picked out. If it isn't my fairy dress or my Anna dress I will be mad. She knows they are my favorites.
I put my bowl in the sink. I gave the dogs pets. I brushed my teeth too, she didn't even have to tell me. I went in to my room, which is really pretty. I have one wall that is yellow. One wall is purple. One wall is green and the other one is pink. I have a big white bed. My walls have pictures from Frozen on them. Mama painted some flutterbies on the yellow wall. It looks like they are flying in sunshine. Mama put my a bright blue shirt on my bed that has a picture of Anna on it. She also put a pair of dark blue shorts out too with my white sandals. I guess this is an ok thing to wear today. Its not what I would pick but Mama seems in a hurry today so I will just put it on. I started to brush my hair but there was a lot of tangles. They hurt if I pull too hard.
Mama is dressing my sister. She is wearing a purple outfit. It's all one piece because she still wears diapers. Sometimes she doesn't even have to wear shoes when we go places. Mama put big clips in my sisters hair. She sighed when she saw my tangles.
Mama yelled for Papa to please get ready and load up the car. She put my sister on the floor so she could crawl around. She sat me between her knees and brushed my hair. When I have tangles she is gentle. She holds the tangled parts and doesn't pull from the top of my head. She put my hair in a pony way up high on my head.
Papa is putting a cooler in the car. He is a giant. He is also very strong. He fixes lots of things when they break so I think he is super duper smart. My brother is carrying a big bag too. He put it in the back of the car after Papa put the cooler in. I don't think my brother will ever be as big or smart as Papa.
I wonder if there are snacks in that bag? Will this be a long car ride? Will we get ice cream? Are we going to see friends? Maybe Grammy & Grampy? It's going to be an adventure. I will take some of my Barbies and two books.
Mama packed us a cup that has a top on it so we don't spill things in the car. We each have one. Brothers is dark green and has his name on the side. Mine is purple with my name on the side. My little sister has a sippy cup, it is for babies. Babies are so so messy.
Mama vacuumed really fast. She was still muttering about the dog hairs all over . When she was putting the vacuum away she told us all to go to the bathroom. Brother insisted he didn't need to go. Baby sister wears a diaper. I tried to go but only a small bit came out. I washed my hands and looked at all of Mamas lotions. I squeezed out a little but a lot came out. So I put it on my legs and arms and face. I tried to rub it in real good and I smelled like pretty flowers. Mama sighed again when she saw me and had to use a towel to rub some lotion off.
Papa put my sister in her car seat. I can get in my booster seat all by myself. Booster seats are ok because then I can see where we are. I can look at other people in their cars. Brother, because he is bigger than me, just needs to use the seat belt. Mama checked my buckle.
Papa started the car. The dogs stayed home so we cannot be going too far. If we go on big trips they come with us sometimes. Other times, like when we went to see my Aunty in Maryland, they stayed at a doggy hotel. That was a very long trip. I didn't see Mama pack our swimsuits so I guess we are not going to the beach.
Papa drove the car away from our neighborhood. I have three friends in the neighborhood. We all play together. If its a rainy day we color, play with paints or watch a movie together. One of my friends, Willa has a pool. My mother always says that Willas mom is a saint. I don't know what that means. Mama always has me bring snacks and juice boxes over to Willas house in the summer. We spend a lot of time swimming. I use floaties on my arms. I am not ready to float without them. And we always have to get sunscreen on one hundred times a day.
We are passing houses, and some stores. There seem to be less buildings now. It is very green with so many trees. Papa turns in to a place that has a parking lot in front of a lot of the trees. He told Mama to just get us out of the car and to get the baby. He will grab the cooler and brother can carry the bag.
We walked down the sidewalk and there was this big building that was open on three sides. It had a roof and picnic tables inside. There was a grill too. Oh maybe there are hot dogs in the cooler? Hot dogs are my favorite. There were people at one of the tables in the big building. I kept looking to see if I knew them.
When we got closer I saw it was Grammy, Grampy, and even other Aunties and Uncles and cousins! Wow! We are having a party for somebody that's for sure. There are all these little posters that say 40 on them. There are some black balloons and a cake that has a big 40 on it too. We can play! Outside the big building there are some balls and frisbees. There are big metal horseshoes that only the big people use. We could hurt ourselves. Mama always says we don't want a trip to the emergency room. I've never been to the emergency room. Brother has. He's an idiot. He jumped from the tree swing in the backyard and broke his arm. He got to wear an orange cast.
We all got hugged a zillion times. I didn't mind. Even thought it was hot out. The grown ups like to hug us littles. They usually ask about school too. Sometimes an Aunty will color with us or play games with us. We play Uno and Go Fish.
One of my Aunts is wearing a tiara with sparkles on it. Mama told us to go wish her a Happy Birthday. I did and I got another hug! She smelled like a pretty sunny day. She said she was very happy we came to her party.
It was a really nice day. We went to a new place and saw all our favorite people. We did have hot dogs, chips and even cake. It was chocolate and so yummy. Mama had to use wipies on my sister because she got chocolate all over her face. The baby fell asleep on the way home. Brother kept playing Pokemon. I just watched the trees. It was a really good day.

Reminiscent of childhood past. I loved how it seemed like a typical day and the stream of consciousness from a little girl flowed effortlessly. The only thing I'd point out is to watch verb tenses, keep it all present except for mentions of the past. This was a great pleasant story and a fantastic snapshot of a special day.

Sweet and funny! The kid’s voice is perfect—curious, blunt, and full of joy. Loved the “Brother’s an idiot” line and the tiara smelling like a sunny day. It’s heartfelt and hilarious in all the right places.🙃
