One day in the middle of May, sixteen year old Kade and his father Dan sat down to watch a football game. Kades dad was a workaholic and never had much time but this was kades time.

The front door swings open as kades mother Linda and older sister Chloë walk in. Chloë runs to say hello to her father and sits down next to him on the couch. She changes the channel to a movie.

Kade rise himself up to try get his dad's attention back from Chloë by telling a funny joke.

Kade: " Dad let me tell you this joke."

Dad: "Okay let's hear it."

Chloë: (Rolls her eyes)

Kade: "There once was a man who loved tractors, I mean he absolutely LOVED them. He had tractor models, tractor wallpaper, remote control miniature tractors, tractor board games, even some tractor porn(which is not easy to find mind you). The only thing that even came close to his love for tractors, was the love he felt for his wife. His high school sweetheart, who didn't mind his infatuation with tractors one bit. She didn't even mind the role play where she would dress as a tractor, he would dress as a farmer, and he would take her for a "ride". Sadly his wife was struck one day, a tractor fell off the back of a transport truck. She didn't die until he was at her side in the hospital. Her dying words "don't blame the tractor honey" and with that she headed to the big farm in the sky. Sadly, he did blame the tractor, he hated them now with all his mind, body, and soul. He went home and destroyed ALL his tractor related items, the toys, his wifes tractor suit, and even his collection of tractor porn. He put it all in a pile and burned it in the yard. What ever didn't burn enough to his liking was thrown into a woodchipper. He then went inside, rarely leaving his home, for 8 years. Finally on the 8th anniversary of his darling wifes death he decided it was time to get back out in the dating world, plus the cute cashier at the grocery store had been asking him out for a while now, he called her out to dinner. The restaurant he choose ended up being quite nice, good food, good service, great decor. But there was one problem, it was EXTREMELY smoky. So smoky that his date, being an asthmatic, was having some trouble breathing. After noticing her displeasure, and trouble breathing, he started breathing in. I mean REALLY breathing in. Inhaling with such force that all the smoke quickly left the dining room, and went into his lungs. When the room was void of smoke he stepped outside and released it all into the night. When he rejoined his date she asked "how on earth did you do that?" to which he replied, "I'm an -

Chloë: " an extractor fan, shut up kade we're watching a movie"

Years go by, cakes with candles have come with song and gone with a jolly fat man dressed in red, Ashes place up on a mantal. Kade has not uttered a word nor a sound to Chloë since that moment in time.

Six May's later Dan has passed away from a heart attack. Chloë and Kade have now lost both their beloved Mother and father. After the funeral Chloë and kade thank everyone for coming.

The lady nextdoor(whispering): "they haven't spoken for five years."

Aunty(laughing): oh yes they seem every committed

Back at there parent's house chloë sits on the same couch watching a movie while kade tried to pack some old stuff away without breaking down. A heavy hand knocks on the door. Kade answers the door.

Its Jim the family lawyer with their dad's will in hand.

Jim:"Your father left you both some money. I was given instructions on what to do when this day arrived. You both have four options.( Kade and Chloë both sitting forward)Option one is to give the money to a charity of your own choice. Option two is to only get your money when you are retired. Option three is to forgive each other and both will get the full amount of money. Option four is you walk away with nothing. I will be back in twenty four hours to hear your decision. So sorry for your loss."

A few steps and Jim was gone. Chloë enters the kitchen, she places a kettle on the stove to boil water for her tea. Kade sits down on the chair to watch a football match. Chloë sits beside him with her arms and legs crossed. The kettle starts screaming steam. Kades left foot tapping.

Kades gaze resting upon the football match. Both teams have three goals each, the famous footballer about to score a goal. While kades eyes follow the black and white ball, as his foot is about to kick the ball darkness. The power has gone out and all they are left to see is darkness and all they are left to hear is the quiet silence that fills the night sky.

Twenty five hours later and Jim is back at the front door of the suburban household. "Knock-k" before the second knock could even get to the second k an eager Chloë swings the door wide open. Jim sits down at the kitchen table and hands Chloë and kade a document with four options to choose.

Chloë and kade take no time at all in choosing. The sound out the clock tik and tok becomes louder as they both wait to see what Jim has to say.

Seven Billion dollars you stubborn pieces of shit. Jim walks out and says to himself " kids these days."

Chloë and Kade get all their belongs and say good bye to their childhood home. Chloë walks to the kitchen to make one last cup of tea in the kitchen and waits for the water in the kettle to boil and looks up at Kade with tears running down her eyeshadow. Kade looks deeply in her eyes and hands her a piece of paper and walks out the back door.

The paper had nothing written on it but when Chloë lifted it to her nose she could smell her dad's clone winched filled her heart.

To this day Chloë and Kade have still not said a word to each other. Kade lives in a half way house and still watches football on TV. Chloë works as a caregiver.

The other day while at school in class I over heard a few boys in my class talking about their friend Kade who went away to Johannesburg and they spoke about how kade and his sister dont talk her name also being Chloë ( very funny we share the same name I thought) They haven't spoken for the last two years. I found that so incredibly odd because normally I forget and forgive when it comes to family but here is a boy who is so committed in not forgiving his own flesh and blood. Some would say stubborn. This story is about a real life brother and sister who dont speak beacuse she told him to shut up and I find it quite funny that he actually does what she says. Most of the story I did make up beacuse I dont live with them and know what went on behind the story
