I love you

This isn't apart of any series, I just had an idea, and it fit the prompt. So, enjoy!

Noah bounced on his heels. He just finished decorating the kitchen for his husband, Elijah. It was their anniversary, and Elijah’s birthday.

Elijah’s plane was supposed to land in an hour, and Noah was going to bring him back home and surprise him with a fancy dinner.

“Leo!” He called. His best friend was helping him, since Noah couldn’t cook to save his life.

“Yeah?”

“Where’s my phone? I want to call Eli!”

“On the couch!”

“Thanks!” 

He went into the living room, and picked his phone up. He was about to call, but Elijah beat him.

“Hey!” Noah grinned.

He heard a shaky breath. “Noah?”

“What’s wrong? Are you crying? What happened?”

“Hey, listen, don’t freak out, okay?”

Too late. “Why? What happened?” 

There was no answer, just another shaky breath. 

“Eli?” He whispered. “You’re scaring me.”

“I’m sorry. The-the plane. Something happened.”

“What do you mean? Is the flight delayed or something?”

“No, it’s-I’m on the plane.”

“So what’s wrong?”

“The plane-it’s going to crash.”

The phone shook in his hand. “W-what?”

“It’s going to crash. I don’t think we’re going to make it.”

Noah’s eyes welled up, and he bit his lip. “I-is this a joke? It’s not funny, okay?”

“I’m so sorry.” He whispered.

“No, no, no, this can’t-you’re lying-you can’t-”

“Noah, it’s okay.”

“No it’s not! You-you’re-”

“Noah-”

“You can’t die! I can’t-you-”

He sobbed, sinking down onto the couch. Tears spilled from his eyes. 

“Noah, I’m so sorry. I love you. More than anything.”

“No, no, no, you can’t. Please, I can’t lose you.”

“Noah? What happened?” 

He looked up to see Leo walking towards him. He tried to choke out words, but he couldn’t, and cried harder. Leo gently took the phone from him.

“Hello? Yeah, it’s Leo. What happened? You-what? Oh my-Seriously? No, that's-It-yeah. Okay.”

Noah could tell Leo was holding back tears. Leo never cried. He handed the phone back to Noah.

“Noah, listen, I love you, okay? I’m so sorry.”

He wiped his eyes, but more tears spilled down his cheeks. “I love you, too.”

He stood up, shaking slightly, and walked to the kitchen. He took a picture of the decorations and the food, and sent it to Eli.

“Oh, Noah...I’m so sorry. I wish I could’ve been there.”

“Can you-can you send me a picture of you?” Noah whispered.

“Okay.”

A couple seconds later, a message from Elijah came in. He clicked on it. 

It was a picture of Elijah, but it was dim. He could see Elijah’s dark skin, and the smile he loved so much. He also saw tears in his beautiful hazel eyes, and that made him sink to the floor, and sob into his hand.

“I love you so much.” Elijah whispered. 

“I love you more.” Noah whispered back.

Noah felt hands wrap around him, and he leaned into Leo as he cried. They repeated “I love you,” to each other, over and over, until Noah heard a loud BOOM, and the call cut off.

“No!” Noah screamed. He dropped the phone, and screamed into his hands. 

He got up, pushing Leo away. He ripped down the decorations, and shoved things off the table. But suddenly, he stopped. 

He picked up the framed wedding picture of him and Eli off of the floor. A long crack ran through the middle. His hands shook.

“I love you so much.” He whispered.
