Ring… Ring… Ring..
The alarm clock on Ziva’s Prescotts’s Purple IPhone went off.
After 5th rang, the snooze button was pressed.
Dragging herself out of her Pinot bed. She headed over to the closet and made a huge yawn before picking up the number 9 jersey.
After getting dressed, she stood by her chic mirror and orchestrated her oval face with game day extensions. Putting her brunette hair in a messy bun, she decided to go with pink and green scrunchie for the day.
After makeup was finished, she said 3 times “If you can make it, you can take it”quoting her favorite movie “Unbroken”.
Within no time to waste, Ziva’s father Leroy Prescott said “Ziva, it’s time to go to school and you know I don’t like to be late for practice”
Annoyed and tired when clocks stroke 5am, Ziva tells herself that she’s only doing this routine to make dad happy. Walking down the marble staircase, she gives a fake smile to her dad and said I’m ready.
Leroy and Ziva both head into the blue 2018 Honda Civic. Once in the car, Double Dragons High School Football team highlights were being played from last week game against the Gulping Gophers.
The Double Dragons won 31-23.
“Dad, do ever stop talking about football?”
“No my sweets, not since I was 3 years old when me daddy threw the ball at me”.
Are you going to come to big game tonight?
You know I would love too but I got my boys in to practice before next game tomorrow that can qualify us into contention for playoffs and a championship
I’m not surprised as you never attends my games after mom was gone
Your right but I can’t always be there since I’ve gotten the head coaching position
I know it would’ve made this situation easier if I were a boy so we could be together more but I’ve grown to understand your logic of reasoning.
Leroy has nothing to say so he just sits in silence.
No sounds were made except the occasional podcast for the next 30 minutes.
Upon entering the school zone, the Blue Honda Civic purred in parking by Double Dragons Football Stadium.
Ziva immediately left the car and without a word to her father she stormed the other way into the gymnasium area. As much as she disapproves of this routine by her father. She found comfort in knowing that she has the gym all to herself for one hour before more students arrive at school.
It’s the only time that not only allows her to become the captain of the Lacrosse team but a way to deal with her mom passing away a few years ago. She also sees this a reflection time about her relationship with her father
After since she was born, she had a rocky relationship with her father due to him wanting a son and carrying on the football legacy tradition that has bestowed in Prescott family since her Grandfather started playing football.
It got real rough when her mother was dying of 4 stage cancer when she was 9 years old. Since then, Ziva tried sport by joining the lacrosse team to help fill the gap with her father. At first she didn’t like it or knew much about it but she did see the resemblance to football
Lacrosse is a fast paced game that requires agility, stamina, physicality, and skill which hold parallel lines to football.
Chapter 2
During lunch break, Ziva got called to go to Academic office.
It was a small little office right next to gym and Mr. Reese Dunkin politely suggested Ziva to take a sit.
Reese Dunkin was the head coach of Lacrosse team and gently rubbed his blondish hair before he spoke.
To Ziva and her teammates, Mr. Dunkin look like Tom Cruise who was a washed out surfer from Hawaii.
Ziva, I regret to inform that you are on academic supension for 2 weeks for failing to get a 3.0 in GPA
What, this outrageous Mr. Dunkin? Am I able to play tonight’s championship game? Is there any thing I can do?
I’m afraid the school as given me a no in playing the championship game due to still having next 2 years of high school left.
Damm it. Ziva holds her composure and stormed out like a bull in a china shop. As soon as gets away from the office, she goes into the women restroom and went to last stall on the end. As soon as she sits on the toilet, she cries like Niagara Falls.
Her life is falling apart, a rocky relationship between her father who wishes he had a son, her mother dying from cancer, and know losing her position as captain of lacrosse team and no being able to win the championship game in to prove to her father that he doesn’t need a son to win a sports championship.
Chapter 3
2 weeks later.
Nothing in Ziva’s life seems to be working right now which only gives her time grief what all that she lost.
Knock, knock, knock,
Dad, is that you?
Yes, I have a surprise for you if you could open the door?
What is it?
I remember you were saying last week that you remembered the playbook till you played lacrosse your freshmen year.
Ya? So?
My team needs a 3 string QB and I don’t have many options or trust many people to fill that role especially since we just got the announcement that we’re in the playoffs in few weeks.
You want me to be on your team?
Yes, because you’re the only person I can count on even though we have our fair share of difference and I think this is also whah your mom would’ve wanted me to do
What about your team and everyone at the school?
They’ll have trust me as I have trust I you my sweet cheeks
Ziva hugs her father as he kissed her forehead
Chapter 4
Its game day and Ziva is very nervous ever since the Max Conair fracture and torn his ACL in an game winning drive that sent Double Dragons to win 20-19 over Laughing Peaches.
Then Felix Hanger went back home in New Hampshire due to his parents were in a near death experience.
It all falls down on Ziva.
First few drives were terrible. 3 and outs, punts, interceptions piling up and now down by 21 pts heading into 4th quarter.
Ziva says her mantra: “ If you can make it, you can take it”. First drive ended in TD then 20 seconds left and Ziva hit a Hail Mary 45 yrd TD to send Double Dragan 31-30 over One-Eye Jack into Semifinal Round.
Next Round, Double Dragons Beat Dancing Gerbils in 45-18 win!
Championship time. Ziva is worried of what’s going to happen and she looks at her Dad who smiles so big that it creates a force of energy that she never felt before and it’s genuinely love!
Ziva routes Doubling Dragons to a 13-12 loss over Lady Gingers in Overtime to lose he High School Championship!
Father hugged her daughter and said I couldn’t be more proud than I am to be your father.
Ziva cried and finally accomplished her dream that is not winning a national championship but positive relationship with her father. it cost everything. She lost het mom, her sports, and lost a national championship.
