From a false truth to a lie the path is blurred: in search of the truth for the manager of a property

Christian Crime Drama

Written in response to: "Write a story about a character who believes something that isn’t true." as part of The Lie They Believe with Abbie Emmons.

This is a story that draws on an authentic experience.

It is a story that hides a fraud and a false belief but let us start from the beginning. The story is set in Italy, in a northern region called Emilia Romagna in a small, quiet, historic, and humertous town called Ferrara. The manager of a small Room and Breakfast guest house hosted a Chilean lady named Alexandra Lorena for a good two weeks in the company of her father Enrique from Chile. From the very beginning, the lady told the room and breakfast manager that she was in Italy to divorce her Italian husband, telling her a lot on WhatsApp about the need to find a house to rent as soon as possible. The manager had great doubts about the veracity of the story but having booked on Booking.com he could not cancel the reservation and relocate the guest, unfortunately he did his best to accommodate her by sharing on WhatsApp many advertisements from an international rental portal called idealista to rent a house, But when the documents were registered, the lady gave her family status, which the manager did not use to register her on the police headquarters' national portal. He also gave her an Italian identity card, a PDF preview of a residence certificate, and her father's Chilean identity card, which lacked her residential address and a Moneygram receipt.

The guests were registered with the current documents, but the manager had a doubt: the family status was false? Perhaps the Italian identity card wasn't issued by the municipality in the province of Bologna, it was probably old or renewed from abroad... well, he decided to finish the reservation while waiting for it to be finished, giving as much inspiration as possible to Alexandra Lorena, including an association that deals with violence against women in the city, and then reporting her father's account on Booking.com so she wouldn't rebook. Alexandra Lorena, who during the booking also spoke about the conditions of violence suffered by her husband and told her that social workers were involved and that from May 22nd she would have to return with her lawyer from the women's association, Alexandra Lorena, who spoke of the need to take her daughter with her to a shelter or the possibility of returning to the provincial family home with her daughter only if the Ferrara city court issued a removal order to her husband. Alexandra Lorena who never appointed a protection order received during that period but told the manager of the need to stay in Italy for a period without knowing by also asking for the apartment with a guesthouse license to be allowed to accommodate children or minors under eighteen despite it being clearly written.

Well, as of May 16, 2023, the manager finally felt relieved, thinking he had taken a problem out of the box. But the manager's life suddenly changed two years later...you will soon see why...

A week after checking out, a man and a woman who showed up as a lawyer rang the doorbell, obtained the manager’s phone number, and blackmailed him. The woman's words were harsh and insistent, and she presented herself as a lawyer, an incredible insistence. Her first and last names were disguised as Sara Scalambra, and her tone was peremptory: they wanted the woman's information, and Scalambra demanded it, even though she knew that privacy laws exist in Italy and Chile. As the husband whispered underneath and insistently asked, "Ask her where my wife is, have her say where my daughter is," the woman's tone became increasingly threatening: "I'll have you close the facility if you don't tell me the address, do you understand? I will inform you that there is a protective order...now I will call the police, you better find an agreement...you are complicit in a kidnapping?!" From misunderstanding to minacs from the threats to the anxiety of this woman who on the other end had a female guest house manager who had previously been stalked and raped by an ex she had lived with and who also knew the laws well! But the female manager was not at all intimidated by telling her that she could not contact the guest again through assistance since the reservation had ended, that in Italy as well as in Chile there is a privacy law and that they had shown up attempting to violate the laws of two countries and also commit trespassing, then she would send a certified mail immediately to the local police and passed her the receipt for sending the certified mail via whatsapp. This handler managed to stand up to them and make sure they left but received two audio messages with the threats and requests against the law that he used two years later to open a criminal stalking case against this lawyer. When people say that life is fraught with pitfalls, but the pitfalls are never enough.... The manager began document checks by contacting three registry offices and contacted booking.com to open a fraud case. He copied the conversations and verified Alexandra Lorena's two phone numbers, discovering that they corresponded to a pastry shop in Chile's wealthy Chilean region: Antofagasta. Yet the doubt remained in the manager's mind: why does a victim mistreated by her husband fly from Chile trying to prove her residence in Italy and say that her husband beats her? And why was the husband's lawyer threatening so loudly, but when I checked the phone number, the lawyer's first and last name was different?...

The surname was not Scalambra, but Scarano, a surname that hides illustrious figures in Italian crime: from a cardinal to the right-hand man of an Italian mafioso, Maria Messina Denaro...but being intimidated by three WhatsApp photographs and a mafioso surname was not exactly the case for the property manager. All the measures were not enough to get all four of them to sign the lie: the separated Chilean wife, the separated Italian husband, the husband's lawyer with the mafia surname, the separated wife's father...this manager knew the fraud all too well...! He at once thought about keeping the data, doing the research to prepare for a tough legal battle that cost him his life two years later. The property manager was a woman, and women are known to have a skill and insight that can sometimes truly save them from trouble...and put them in more trouble.

Two years later, in 2025, the postal police unexpectedly arrived to search the computers of the two computers and two cell phones in the apartment where the manager of the property on March 13, 2025, broke into the apartment in Rome at 7 in the morning, scaring the neighborhood three policemen for a search for evidence. Scarano had invented that the manager of the property had threatened her in the city of Bologna. The lack of evidence did not stop the Rome postal police officers; Scarano, using his surname and location, had recovered not only the address of the property manager, but also his private address. On March 21, 2025, he reported it to the Bologna Legal Bar Association and the Disciplinary Legal Council, after also reporting it to the Italian Privacy Guarantor, a national body that protects citizens' privacy in 2024, and reported it to the Anti-Mafia Investigative Directorate. On May 17, 2025, he reported again to her and then filed another complaint on July 10, 2025.

She opened a complaint with Fastweb in July 2025, verified her imputed IP for addition on a legal

Scarano's thorough preparation of three complaints, including important material proving that she had been a victim of a fraud, led to the property manager becoming involved with the culprit.

After three complaints with the addition of important material to prove that she had been the victim of a fraud and well thought out by Scarano, the property manager found himself involved from victim to culprit. The two cell phones were returned to her on March 13, 2025: the manager had never contacted the lawyer Scarano and on the same day they gave her a computer, the other was seized by the postal police and returned with a request for release a month later where only Google searches that did not correspond to the crime of cyber stalking were reported. On March 31, 2025, the postal police issued a new notification and wasted another 7 hours waiting for the released PC and its return. From eight in the morning to three in the afternoon...without eating. When people are said to take advantage of the weakest or those they think are, they never think about the value of resilience...On May 16, 2025, the Bologna postal police, with two officers, showed up with hand notifications, arguing and mistreating the poor manager, who was forced to call the Carabinieri to have the plainclothes officers identified. The officers' cunning was such that they forced her to sign the refusal of the electronic bracelet without informing her of the consequences, and on September 12, 2025, she was unexpectedly arrested without having committed anything...as a precautionary measure in prison at a women's prison in Rome, awaiting questioning on September 23, 2025, by a preliminary investigations judge. The interrogation went well, but it was unclear why the judge had closed the criminal proceedings started by the manager in Scarano and when the notification of the request for dismissal arrived in July 2025 and the manager's lawyers promptly attached material to oppose the dismissal. Despite this, it was still archived...This did not stop the self-confidence of the property manager who, although she had been transferred from September 12, 2025 to November 5, 2025 in prison in Rome, Rebbia and was unexpectedly transferred on November 5, 2025 to the only women's prison in Bologna still with the majority of summer clothes without the elderly parents being able to immediately understand in what psychological and social situation she found herself in this poor manager...If only the cyber police officers hadn't made her sign the electronic bracelet refusal! But a judge who prepares a ban on residence in Bologna for a person residing in Rome and the same judge who prepares a ban on removal from places frequented by the victim for a person residing in Rome and dismisses a stalking proceeding initiated against a lawyer who habitually blackmails the managers of Ferrara properties without providing a reason and continuing to attack a manager who is really protecting the small property? One might wonder...as well as at the preliminary hearing another judge writing a ruling in January 2026 based on the phantom fabrications not proven by the evidence who is really judging? It is also necessary to know how many articles of the Criminal Code these judges violated in sentencing a poor epileptic woman, suffering from hypothyroidism and with three fibroids in her uterus and a myoma, to still have a bracelet, ignoring her health conditions and work. You would also need to have two lawyers who are more committed and have a thorough understanding of the subject matter and what cyber stalking really is to convince the judge in a preliminary hearing. In February 2026, the Bologna prosecutor's office filed the manager's three complaints at the beginning of February 2026 on 9 and 11 February 2026, while the manager also sent them to the higher council of the national judiciaryWhile awaiting appeal and with the judge's authorized ability to use computers for work and personal defense purposes... defense, as other inmates advised, can sometimes be obtained alone but... with the accompaniment of someone who truly believes in you.

Did her insights save her? After two hearings of the review court for release and the sending of the three complaints to the review court on March 13, 2026, she again received badly written news and a notification: she had to pay the court costs.

Expenses she wasn't interested in paying because she had obtained the Ferrara property with a donation from her parents, and she didn't even own the Rome apartment: she had usufruct, which meant that if it were sold, she wouldn't receive a penny and would have to find another job and even another place to live. Not easy for a person who worked online. Still waiting for the appeal and without reading his name on the appeal calendar he reflected on whether it was better to change lawyers or have someone follow him who did not care how he was because he could not find another lawyer available....
