What is a Queen?
When a King selects his Queen, he is choosing something more than a partner. A queen is chosen not for her beauty, her deference, or her bosom.
A Queen is chosen when a King craves an equal, when his dominion must be shared, lest it lose all of its value.
A Queen is not a vehicle for bearing children nor is she simply a keeper of the home.
A Queen is a bringer of light into the darkest of realms. Realms of isolation, depression, angst, masculine inadequacy and impotence.
A Queen is her King’s armor. Not in battle, but in life and in union. She shields her King from the outward malice of the public, and from his innermost demons and insecurities.
A Queen on a chess board has the most freedom of movement out of all the pieces in the game, because her survival is imperative to the health and well-being of the Kingdom.
A Queen does not abuse her King, she empathizes with his suffering, for the crown is a heavy burden. She takes no joy in his pain, and her very presence is the cure to his anguish.
A Queen is a refuge from the storms of manhood. Her embraces provide solitude, and the caress of her fingertips is enough to assuage every remnant of guilt or shame within her King's heart.
A Queen is not a violent creature. She is the fundamental embodiment of grace, one who reduces Venus to jealousy and envy.
A Queen is revered by her subjects, but treats them all with a kindness and humility that stems only from a deep and internal peace that rests within her heart, in a place not even her King has access to.
A Queen does not belittle those she does not agree with. She absorbs what is useful to her, rejects what is useless, and adds what is uniquely her own.
A Queen is not a commander of Armies, for war disgusts her.
A Queen acknowledges her emotions, and that of her King, without bias or correction. She understands more than anyone that what is felt, must be felt fully in order for growth to occur.
A Queen stands for her principles, especially when they are unpopular and especially when they don't directly benefit her.
A Queen holds within her voice the power to enact change, to ease tension, to raise vigor, to seduce, to sing, and to scold. She understands that with this great power comes great responsibility, and that she must never abuse these powers, as it would directly affect her legacy.
A Queen is an expert in body language. She can look at her King or her subjects and ascertain their mood and thoughts without them ever making a sound.
A Queen dances freely and frequently, without reservation or hesitation, any time there is music, and sometimes when there is none.
A Queen's smile is her signature. She may have more than one smile or smiles for different occasions. It is the King's responsibility to learn each of them and their meanings.
A Queen does not take her King or her subjects for granted. Nor does a King who is worth his weight.
A Queen is her King's right arm. Without her, he could rule, perhaps for a while. But it would be a thousand times more difficult and infinitely less satisfying.
A Queen shuns superficiality with a firm hand. To her, depth and sincerity are more valuable than gold and silver.
A Queen measures her wealth not by the weight of her coffers, nor by the breadth of her kingdom or dominion. Her wealth is measured by the happiness she sees in those she chooses to surround herself with.
A Queen seeks not to be liked, but to be respected and valued.
A Queen does not seek vengeance. She seeks to understand and to be reasonable.
A Queen is gentle enough to settle the most stubborn and indignant stallion, but strong enough to mount the same beast without assistance.
A Queen does not value possessions or jewels. She values people, and places, and the differences between them all.
A Queen speaks neither in hyperbole nor exaggeration. She spends her words the same way a poor man should spend his gold; wisely, consciously, and with careful consideration.
A Queen does not cease to be a Queen when she removes her crown, nor when she loses her King.
A Queen is raised by the great women who raise them, mothers and aunts and grandmothers alike.
A Queen is the greatest gift ever given to mankind, for without them this world would be nothing more than a desolate wasteland of consumption and scrupulous procreation, a world completely and totally devoid of reasons to dance.
A Queen can walk among us every day, sometimes unnoticed among the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
A Queen does not fear foreigners or those who do not speak her mother tongue. She values the culture and different perspectives these foreigners bring to her kingdom, and she embraces them warmly when she meets them, for she knows that outside of her domain, she too, is a foreigner.
A Queen uses her voice and stature to oppose wrongdoing by any and all parties, including her King. She doesn't simply pray for justice, she demands it with feminine ferocity.
A Queen is not born, they are not made, and they certainly are not anointed by Kings or by God.
A King must always remember that without his crown, he is simply a man, flawed in every immaginable way a man can be flawed. If he rules with an iron fist, without reason, without justice, or without sensibility, then he will rule alone for the duration of his reign. A King without a Queen is already dangerously close to losing the chess match of life. A Queen, on the contrary, without a crown is still a Queen, a gift from the gods, put here on Earth to guide those of us who are willing and ready to rule the dominion of our own lives and construct a kingdom, piece by piece, block by block, day by day.
