"He's a lady's man. Don't get your hopes up," the blondie suggested to Fleur. She was sitting on the garden seat beside the gym, catching her breath. She gazed absently at the pretty flowers there. A daisy was losing its petals. Slowly, one by one, each lovely petal drifted onto the match. Fleur was recalling a childhood chant, as young girls plucked off each daisy petal, saying, "He loves me, he loves me not."
'Good question," she thought. Just because her gym crush, Beau, had coached her today and corrected her bench press technique, did not mean he could ever return her affection she held for him. Beau was not only good looking, he was ripped from all those workouts he completed. He was a gym junkie. True, Fleur did not know enough about his personal likes and dislikes.
"Does he even like brunettes?" she asked herself, flicking back her newly trimmed hairdo. She glanced at her watch, and wondered how to attract a hot stud like Beau.
Then Beau walked over from the gym to his car, and did not notice Fleur's rapt gaze. The last daisy petal floated down. Fleur took this as a sign of nature, thinking. "He might do more than like me. I can think of quite a few fun things I could do if we were ever together. Girls like shenanigans too."
With that cheery idea, she too strolled to her car with her gym bag. She was even looking rather more toned lately, due to extra hours exercising. Her casual gear had undergone a makeover, she had upgraded her sports bra. No more tatty underwear for Fleur. A chick could never know when she might get lucky. Whoever Beau was dating was one fortunate babe indeed.
Fleur could only attempt to visualize the sort of girls he kissed. She drove home, hatching a plan of action. One of her excellent hobbires was sketching. When she arrived home, she did her washing for a super duper Saturday, wondering what Beau was doing right then. Fleur did not like to contemplate the Saturday night date she had not acquired once again. Another quiet night in, mooning over her crush.
She had decided to lure Beau anonymously. The drawing of a full blown daisy, with a petal at the base of its stalk, needed a message, an appealing slogan. Fleur was really pleased with her bait. Her plan was to stick a sketch on the door of Beau's gym locker in the communal area. That was where he stashed his bag and car keys.
Sunday morning at the sporting complex began a tad later. The regular crowd of testosterone were already pumping iron by the time. Fleur started her exercise regime. On Beau's locker was her colourful sketch, and her hopefully attractive pick up line. "Daisy for you, for lifting weights, Dude, you have got this!"
By the time her cute crush finished his weights, the word had spread around some of the other gym junkies. A few smiles, exchanged remarks. Fleur kept going, trying to be unobtrusive. Beau and his exercise buddy went to their locker, and had a chant on the way. Beau appeared stunned, and did a double take. Fleur pretended not to be listening, as his mate said, "Whoa, is that from a stalker?"
"Yeah, nah, it's great. We all need motivation. What's the matter, you jealous?" Beau asked, slightly red in the face. His buddy shut up then. Still being males, they left the gym, leaving behind a trace of aftershave. That only encouraged Fleur. Beau was so attractive. Flushed and breathless, she decided to create some more signature daisy drawing and phrases. It was all for Beau, as well as her own fantasies coming to life. Or would they?
Workplace duties had a wicked way of intruding on Fleur's latest gym devotions, but she made time and energy to be there by 5pm most days. Of course, it was more than coincidental that this was half and hour before Beau arrived with his male gym buddy. Her next message did not beat around the daisy bush. Below the daisy drawing, with petals descending, was: "Love me, love me not. Let's find out over coffee."
Fleur proceeded to do her Monday routine, smiling shyly when Beau waved. As she was walking past his locker on the way home, she stood, transfixed. He had pinned a real red rose to her note. She read underneath: "Petals say hi. My heart hopes its you. "
Thrilled, she drove away from the gym. "Can I measure up to a man like that? Maybe I've raised my expectations too high," she told herself. She definitely needed some new gym gear, perhaps some fluro neon sleek lycra leggings. That way she could emphasise taut buns of her own. "Right, retail therapy tomorrow at lunchtime!"
Her name Fleur meant "Little Flower", but she had been proactive here. Usually, she was a rather passive/submissive type of wallflower, always waiting patiently for some romantic interest. This was the first time she had ever taken a leading role.
The next day's daisy petal display involved a bright sunny floral picture, with a beaming smile on a yellow, happy flower. "You can count on me for cheer. Go get 'em."
Beau still had not said a word, so the red rose collection grew daily in a vase at Fleur's hacienda. The fateful message and daisy sketch simply read, "Coffee tonight, in the foyer lounge at 7 pm." She honestly did not know if Beau would appear, or how he would react.
It was meet and greet time at last. In strolled Beau, but he sat down with the wrong girl. There was an even trimmer gal there, blue-eyed, very toned, full of smiles. All Fleur's casual banter she had rehearsed slid away. As she drank her bitter cup of coffee, she idly doodled another daisy. Its stalk was drooping, its petals lay scattered around its base in the arid soil. She could not resist. "He loves, HE LOVES ME NOT!!!!"
So much for Fleur's gym crush. The petals all blew away. But her own great buns she has still got!
